INTRODUCTION:
This course exposes the students to Arabic Language. Basic Arabic is a course that aims at developing students
basic skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar. The course is based on modern standard Arabic
which is a key variety that is understood across the Arab world despite the variations in dialects.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the course is to assist students to:
1) Be trained and given the understanding of Arabic language and realize it’s importantance in daily life.

2) Be taught on foreign languages apart from Malay language and English languages and display their mastery
in assignments or oral presentations.
3) Be exposed to common Arabic words for daily conversation.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1) Identify basic words on public places example at the market, airport, office and so on
2) Communicate in Arabic
3) Apply the Arabic language when interacting with society

COURSE STRUCTURE:

Contact hours : 3.5 hours per week

COURSE POLICY/ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students are required to abide by the university’s Academic Regulation pertaining to all matters during their course
of study. Learners are advised to take note that class attendance is very important. Learners who do not meet the
attendance requirement will be barred from sitting for the final examination.

You are expected to fulfill the following requirements of the course to obtain a grade:

Forum: 5%
Students are required to participate in two topics of forum discussion in UNIEC Virtual.

Assignment 1: 20% (CARE – Presentation Skills and Communication skill)


Journal assignment: Student required to submit a journal about them self. It must be done individualy. This to
enhance students presentation and communication skills. Due dates for submission are indicated in the course
schedule. You need to submit a hard copy of the assignment to your respective lecturer.

Assignment 2: 20% (CARE- Assimilation With Technology)


Video recording assignment: In a group of 4-5 students (maximum). Students need to do video recording for
assignment. This to expose students with the use of technology.

Mid Term: 15%


Students are required to attend and participate actively in class discussion, exercises, assignment presentations and
other class activities. It is just not enough to read and study the lecture notes given by instructor or to participate
mentally in the discussion without voicing out your opinions or relating your own experiences.

Final Examination (40%)


Final examination coverage will be announced by course leader. Students may refer to the test plan posted uniec for
coverage. Students who are unable to sit for the exam on the stipulated date must produce necessary document(s) to
enable themselves to sit for special exam. All arrangements must be made through the Exam Unit.
