Assignment # 1

Transaction Processing System (TPS) is an information system that captures and processes data
about business transactions.
Characteristics of TPS are:

 High volume
 Data capture focus
 Goal is the efficiency of data movement
 Processing and interfacing different TPSs

Example of TPS and its features:

 Real Time Data Processing

Real Time Data Processing is an example of a Transaction Processing System that

is capable of processing and having an output the moment the data is entered in the
system. In a short of period, it is able to produce immediate outputs with the purpose
that the customer would not wait for a long time. Examples of business enterprises that
use this type of processing system are fast food enterprises such as KFC, House of
Chicken, and other enterprises under multiple industries; once the customer states
what they prefer to order, the cashier then inputs the customer’s order on the cash
register, the restaurant’s system then processes the data and then once it’s done,
produces an official receipt of the customer’s order. Other than that, reservations of
any sort, such as flight reservations, hotel reservations, etc., is also a good example of
real time data processing; for instance, a client wants to make flight reservations going
to Japan, so he proceeds to call a travelling agency too make a reservation. The agent
proceeds to collect data from the customer that is relevant for the reservation; Once
data has been entered, the agency’s system then processes the data then produces a
bill in which the client has to pay in order for the reservations be fulfilled.
Features of this TPS is that it has immediate response upon obtaining data,
unless there is a technical problem in the system, there is no delay in making outputs.
Second feature is that you get whatever data that is entered, unless the person
mistypes the information.
