President’s Letter
Dear Members of the University
Club of Albany:
As always I hope this letter finds
you healthy and sane.
I want to thank the 25+ members
who came out to the Club back on
September 21 for our Annual Meet-
ing. Thanks also to those members
who joined the meeting remotely.
The meeting was spirited and lively
to say the least! It was also nice to
be with such a good group of people
in a safe and welcoming environ-
ment that General Manager Mimi
Fahy and the staff put together. The
food and drink were top notch also!
I also want to thank and congratu-
late our newest board members,
Adam Morey who was elected to a
three-year term, and Mobeen Bhatti
who is filling the remainder of
Geoffrey Hoderath’s term. In addi-
tion, I want to thank the rest of the
board, who have been so generous
with their time and commitment to
our Club.
As was discussed at the meeting,
our financial condition remains pre-
carious. Mimi and the staff have
done what the board expects them
to do: make our Club a safe and
welcoming place with great food,
drink and amenities. However, due
to the consequences of COVID-19,
the lost additional revenue from
events and overnight accommoda-
tions is accelerating our losses.
What can help in the short-term is
for members to actually utilize the
food and beverage services Mimi
and the staff have been offering.
That means stopping by the Club
for in-person lunch or dinner
Wednesday-Friday; ordering to-go
meals on those same days; or mak-
ing a reservation for Sunday
Brunch, starting October 4. What
is also critical is for membership to
continue to promptly pay their
monthly dues.
And since the Annual Meeting we
have been in contact with a realtor
and are exploring some near-term
options for some of the unused
space on the upper floors. I will
keep the membership updated on
how this progresses.
And please mark your calendars
and plan on attending the recently
announced Membership meeting
on Wednesday, October 14th at
5pm, to be held at the Club and
online.

Follow-Up
The Annual meeting was a great
way for everyone to come together
and brainstorm ideas about the fu-
ture of the Club.
There were so many great and
passionate ideas. Now is the time
to come together and start bringing
those great ideas to
fruition.
There are many committees within
the club that could use your help,
along with the UClub Foundation,
which is the Club’s fundraising
engine, and the
reason we are able to invite the
public into our glorious building
for many of our events.

The University Club of Albany Foundation, with the support of
Humanities New York, is pleased to present a series of talks
on Presidential Campaigns: An Election-Year History with au-
thor and historian Giacomo Calabria beginning Thursday, October
8. The talks will take place every Thursday evening until October
29. Each evening is planned as a hybrid virtual/in-person event,
running from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
The cost is $5 per session or $20 for all four. Please make reserva-

Geoffrey T.
Hoderath, 62,
passed away
suddenly on
June 8, 2020.
He was the son
of the late Walter and Ann
Hoderath. As a young boy he was a
member of a private boy choir on
Long Island. He attended SUNY
Albany and Albany Law School. He
worked as an attorney with the
N.Y.S. Division of Housing &
Community Renewal for 29 and a
half years. He was a longtime mem-
ber of both St. Peter's Episcopal
Church and its church choir, where
he regularly performed as a soloist.
He was a past president and life
member of the Catskill 3500 Club
and a member of the Adirondack
Mountain Club. Geoffrey was a
Freemason and member of several
Lodges located in Albany, Sauger-
ties, and New York City, in particu-
lar Wadsworth Lodge #417 F &
A.M., Rondout Lodge #343, F &
A.M. and Independent Royal Arch
#2, F & A.M. He was an honorary
member of Ancient Temple Lodge
#14 F & A.M. and in his Masonic
career he served as a master mason,
assistant grand lecturer, grand repre-
sentative to the Lodge of Arizona,
and district deputy grand master. He
was also an active member on the
Board of the University Club of
Albany for six years. Survivors in-
clude his loving wife, Wendy B.
Lindskoog; and his sister, Paula
Hoderath of Hicksville, Long Is-
land. Funeral services will be held
at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 10,
in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 107
State St., Albany. An hour before
the service, family will be available
for visitors. Seating will be limited,
with masks and social distancing
required. The service will be record-
ed and may be seen the following
day on the church's webpage
at www.stpeterschurchalbany.org In
lieu of flowers, contribution in
memory of Geoffrey may be made
to St. Peter's Church Choir or
the Shriners Hospital for Children in
Springfield, Mass.
We were in the
middle of the
shut down when our littlest and
most fun member turned one!
Happiest of birthdays to Aurelia
Maddalena Di Novi! Aurelia is
the Club’s sassy little spitfire mas-
cot! We look forward to all the sur-
prises you have in store for us this
year!
The UClub is made up of an amazing
group of people. You are loyal, sup-
portive and fiercely devoted to your
beloved Club. And your board of di-
rectors is extremely generous.
There have been many instances of
your board taking the lead in making
significant donations of talent, time
and treasure, which have helped our
Club provide the welcoming experi-
ence you have all come to expect and
enjoy.
Those contributions — as well as
those of other members — have
helped the Club:
 Get the 55- inch flat screen TV you
saw at the Annual Meeting, which
will help us with hybrid events and
film screenings
 Rebuild the back stairs, which gave
us a spectacular summer of alfresco
dining in the backyard
 Upgrade our screen and projector,
which are key to our program of
cultural events
 Add a Keurig to the amenities
we offer our residential guests
 Improve our menu offerings
with a new flat grill in the
kitchen
 Furnish our shared office space
with chairs and monitors
So a big thank you to everyone
who contributes to our Club.

or recurring donation to the Foun-
dation to help preserve our beloved
Club.

Remember we have a great
shared workspace for use by
members. It has everything you
need to do a full day’s work. It
is spacious and comfortable,
there is always coffee and all
you have to do is walk down-
stairs or call to order lunch!
You can also rent a sleeping
room at an economical rate for a
more permanent office away
from home. Naturally, the
rooms lock, so you can safely
leave your supplies and materi-
als.

donated monitors and chairs for
the shared office.
Keep us in mind if you are up-
grading your office — we can
find a new home for gently used
furniture and equipment. We
can also use any office supplies
presently clogging up your stor-
age closets.
