Crony Capitalism, an act evidently seen during the Marcos regime, is an economic system that enables

those who have close ties with a government official, in this situation, Ferdinand Marcos, to benefit and
acquire wealth and power through privileges and favors extended to them by the certain official, or the
government in general.

Capitalistic gain should not come first to humanitarianism. Coming from the documentary,
it was evident that the Cojuangco family were driven by their capitalist thinking to exploit the
farmers that were inhabiting and working in Hacienda Luisita. In the beginning it was explained
that the term of the loan given by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and GSIS to the Cojuangco
family in order to pay for the land where the hacienda is located was that the land should be
redistributed to the farmers after 10 years of operations; which clearly was not met and even
dragged out by the family for almost three decades with connections from the internal
government.

Moreover, the rally of the workers was as justified as their intentions. The workers of the
hacienda were severely underpaid and were inhumanely treated, and everyone was turning a
blind eye because of the influence of its oligarchic landlord. The people who were turning the
screws on their entire operation were only paid 9.50 pesos a day working on farmland that was
supposed to be theirs. Given a more humane treatment, the farmers of the land would not have
had to sacrifice lives just to ask for the bare minimum against their capitalistic landlord.

Voice out against injustices to make a change. Just like the farmers of Hacienda Luisita, the
need to voice out our truths is of paramount importance if we wish to change or go against the
injustices present in the society.  To make a change, we have to make our voices be heard by
those who need to hear them; it may even incite inspiration to people who are stuck in the same
situation. The brave farmers of the Hacienda Luisita are an excellent example of this. They
challenged the power and impunity of the oligarchic Cojuangcos to make their objectives be
heard. This act eventually became fruitful as most of the land from Hacienda Luisita has now
been redistributed to the original beneficiaries and current farmers of the plantation.
