REED (Reflection Paper)

1 John 3:16-18
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay
down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a
brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

In this verse, it tells us about the sacrifice of Jesus and how he unselfishly gave his everything to
us sinners. We all know that we are weak compared to our Lord, yet he still gave us the blessing
we need to have. This tells us that we must follow the footprints of Jesus and help the people that
is in need just like the way he helped us.

Jesus touches our lives through the sacraments. Our celebrations of the sacraments are signs of
Jesus’ presence in our lives and a means for receiving his grace. He “shared” this blessing to us
so we can live our lives according to his will. We may also call these sacraments the “special
gifts” that God gave us. Even though we are not worthy of his love, we still received them.

To be honest, it felt satisfying to share my extra money to someone who is really in need. I didn’t
feel the loss of my material possessions, but I felt the emotions of the people that needs help. It
warms my heart that there is an activity like this that helps other people for their lives to be
better. Even if I was not forced to do this, I will surely do it again.

This activity made me realize and appreciate the things I have now. It truly changed my
perspective about life and how material possessions work. Before this activity, I was blinded
about the material things I own. I just wanted everything for myself and collect things I usually
don’t really need. But after this, all I ever want to do right now is to give help to others who are
in need. I truly thank the faculty for this activity.
