Lesson Plan in English Grade VII

OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 to identify characters of the story through given description.
 to share their own experiences in the city or barrio.
 to express how they feel about certain scenes facially.

SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife by Manuel E. Arguilla

A. Routine Activities

 Prayer
 Checking of attendance
 Passing of assignment

B. MOTIVATION
i. Post two pictures on the board, one with people living in the city and the other,
people living in the barrio. Ask the students to describe each picture. Write the
descriptive words that they say below each picture. Ask them to write about a
certain person that they know who lives in the city or barrio.
ii. Ask them to read what they wrote in front of the class.
C. PRESENTATION
Introduction:
i. The teacher will give a short background about the author Manuel E. Arguilla.
ii. The teacher will give synopsis.
iii. The teacher will ask the students about their point of views about the literary
text after presenting the synopsis.
iv. The teacher will now introduce the whole literary text of The “How My Brother
Leon Brought Home a Wife by Manuel E. Arguilla.”

Pre-Reading Activities
VOCABULARY ENRICHMENT
The teacher will present the difficulty terms through a test. Match the sentence in
Column A with the sentence that has the same meaning in column B. Take note of the
underline phrases. Write the letter of your answer on the blank before each number.

During Reading Activities
During the reading activity where the teacher will project the comprehension guided
questions on the projector screen. The story guided questions will be used to monitor
the students’ comprehension through oral questioning.
Anticipation Guide Questions:
· Where did the story happen?
· Who are the characters in the story?
· Why did the father treat Maria like he did?
· What was Maria like?

Post Reading Activities

The teacher will introduce an activities called “Vocabulary Wall”. This time the students
have the power to ask their fellow students regarding the new words they heard from
the story. This strategy allows the students to write their answers in the designated wall
in the class prior the discussion.

APPLICATION
A. Ask the students about how the different characters may feel in the beginning of the
story, in the middle, and in the end.
B. Group the students into eight to ten members. Ask them to prepare a talk-show
presentation with the character in the story as the guests. Have the talk show host ask
questions about how they felt in the specific scenes in the story and have the host add
questions of his or her own.

GENERALIZATION
The teacher will ask again of what the things they learned from the literary text are and
how they will reflect it from their lives.
EVALUATION
Essay:
What are the important events from the story? Explain each. (15pts)
What is the message of the literary text? (10pts)
What are the things you’ve learned from the literary text are and how you will reflect it
from your daily lives? (10pts)

ASSIGNMENT
Write another possible ending of the story.
