We need to first check what kind of triangle it is. If the triangle is a right triangle, we can start
looking for the trigonometric ratios for the given angle.

To find a trigonometric ratio we will need to choose between sine, cosine, and tangent. We will be
finding all three ratios, but it does not matter which one we choose first.

After choosing one of the core functions of trigonometry we need to use the acronym SOH, CAH,
and TOA to make the ratios. The first letter for each acronym stands for the core functions of
trigonometry: sine, cosine, and tangent. O stands for opposite length of the angle. A stands for the
adjacent length of the angle. H stands for the length of the hypotenuse.

Using the location of the given angle we will find the trigonometric ratios, which will be presented as
a fraction, for each core functions of trigonometry. Let’s say we chose sine first. The number that
will be in the numerator will be the length opposite of the angle. The number that will be in the
𝑂𝑃𝑃
denominator will be the length of the hypotenuse. At the end it should look like this: 𝑆𝑖𝑛 𝜃 = 𝐻𝑌𝑃.

Repeat the last step above two more times for the other two core functions of trigonometry. At the
𝑂𝑃𝑃 𝐴𝐷𝐽 𝑂𝑃𝑃
end you should have three trigonometric functions: 𝑆𝑖𝑛 𝜃 = 𝐻𝑌𝑃, 𝐶𝑜𝑠 𝜃 = 𝐻𝑌𝑃, and 𝑇𝑎𝑛 𝜃 = 𝐴𝐷𝐽
.
