5 Electric motor
O Obey all applicable general procedures.
O If electric motors are stored in a dry, dust-free and temperature-regulated room, special packing is
not necessary. In all other conditions, pack the motors in plastic foil containing a desiccant
substance (e.g. Silica gel or equivalent) or seal with shrink film. Protect the motors against the sun.
O Large motors are equipped with an interlocking device at the driving end for transport purposes.
Block the interlocking device until the motors are put into operation, or remount after inspection or
trial run. An interlocking device is not necessary and not available if axially based bearings are
installed.
O Motors with sleeve bearings are delivered and stored without oil in the bearings. In order to protect
the sleeve bearings and bearing journal, against corrosion, do the next steps:
• Seal all openings.
• Protect all threads with plugs.
• Fit all connection flanges with dead flanges.
• Cover all gaps between sealing and winding respectively sealing and housing with self-
adhesive stable strips.
• Remove cover from bearing housing. Spray a corrosion protective paste through this
opening. Use a paste which you do not have to remove when operating the motor. (e.g.
TECTYL 511 M from Valvoline).
• Put a sachet of desiccant (e.g. Silica gel or equivalent) below the plexiglas cover in order
to avoid condensation.
• Repeat above steps if a period of 6 month is exceeded without operating the pump
unit.
O If storage in the open is unavoidable, use a cover against sunshine and rain. Make sure to avoid
condensation.
O Consult the motor manufacturer if motors are stored for a period for more than 2 years.
O Connect the temperature regulated anti-condensation heater if equipped. When using an anti-
condensation heater you can cancel the steps mentioned before.
