FABRIC MANAGEMENT WITH CONTRAIL

Fabric
Management

Design and Consideration

Operator
1. Deploy configuration of IP Clos fabric with discover spine-
and-leaf topology, all the leaf are connected to the spine
Contrail Enterprise Multicloud AppFormix in a mesh.
Management Network
2. IP underlay provision using eBGP with brownfield option
as prerequisite.
3. iBGP for the overlay EVPN-VXLAN, the spine as route-
reflector.
4. Bridged overlay design to extend ethernet VLAN.
5. Add routing to overlay by implementing MX router device
external to the EVPN-VXLAN fabric will exclude part of
fabric management.
6. Collect IP fabric metrics using SNMP or JTI.

Management Bridged Overlay Design
• Ethernet VLANs are extended
between leaf across VXLAN tunnels.
Operator

• Spine only provide basic underlay

Contrail Enterprise Multicloud and overlay connectivity for leaf,
Management Network and do not perform routing or
gateway services seen with other
overlay methods.
• Leaf originate VXLAN tunnel
endpoints (VTEPs) to connect to the
other leaf, tunnels enable the leaf
to send VLAN traffic to other leaf.
