Ceilings

The ceiling is an integral part of your decor and can set the stage for your design scheme as
much as the flooring does. Ceiling pair well with the walls and the rest of the room. Typically, a
ceiling is finished with a space above to conceal wiring, pipes and ductwork.  ceilings can affect
the mood of the space and how it feels. Small boxy rooms with a low ceiling will feel
claustrophobic, and a small room can be made more spacious by lifting the ceiling.

Conventional ceilings
Conventional flat plasterboard ceilings are the most common type of ceilings seen in homes. It is
usually 8 feet high but can be 9 to 10 feet high in a custom home. Most conventional ceilings are
typically finished flat with a surface just like the walls. Among the other types of ceilings, a
conventional ceiling is probably the easiest to build and it is very functional as well.

However, conventional ceilings are plain looking, flat surfaces and they do not draw that much
attention unlike other ceiling styles such as coffered and tray ceilings. The secret to making
conventional ceilings look more appealing is through their paint and finishes.
Higher ceilings make a room feel larger, but they cost more as you need non-standard
construction materials to build them. Just because they are conventional doesn’t mean they have
to be boring. Regular ceilings can incorporate different lighting styles and molding to enhance
their look.
Most are typically finished flat, with a surface just like the walls.

Conventional ceilings are smooth, with recessed vents and visible lighting fixtures.
Conventional ceilings can be made more decorative by adding cornice to the seams where the
wall and ceiling meet.
