STRETCHING IDEAS EXERSICE

Cities are created in former natural areas. Some cities are so large and concentrated that very

little which is natural remains in them. People have created totally artificial environments in

cities, but some people try to make them more natural. Today, many cities are “naturalizing”

their surroundings to provide animal habitat.

FINAL VERSION

Cities are created in former natural areas. For example, cities such as New York and San
Francisco, before being discovered by Europeans, were large extensions of land inhabited by
indigenous but full of flora and fauna. Some cities are so large and concentrated that very little
which is natural remains in them. In fact, New York City is a clear example of this, because of
the reduce of natural environments to make way for the industry, this city has a large park
(Central Park) that functions as a lung and home to certain species. People have created totally
artificial environments in cities, but some people try to make them more natural. Certainly,
people who reside in big cities and in apartments, find a way to make their spaces something
more connected with nature, so they occupy spaces such as their terraces or backyards to make a
garden and even to have an organic garden. Today, many cities are “naturalizing” their
surroundings to provide animal habitat.
