Exploring Strategies for Solving Systems of Linear Equations

Background:
Up to this point, we have learned about different methods for solving systems of linear equations. Now, let us take and
organize these strategies into a concept map to further understand the relationships and various ways for solving linear
equation problems.
Directions:
1. Please include your name, period and date anywhere on your concept map.
2. Use this page from the OpenStax Algebra Textbook to learn more about the 3 methods for solving systems of linear equations
(graphing, substitution, and elimination). You may also refer to our math textbook as another resource for your concept map.
As you are reading, try to discover any similarities or differences for each strategy. Now, take a look at this website which also
explains each concept and its key distinctive properties.
3. Create your own appropriate title for the main topic which will be placed in the center bubble of your concept map. The three
sub-topics will be the three strategies we are observing.
4. In each sub-topic, be sure to include:
a. An example using each method. You may use your previous homework solution methods for this part or an example
we did in class.
b. When would each method be the best to use and why?
c. What are some similarities and/or differences between each method?
d. Which method is your favorite? Write why you prefer using this method in the bubble linked to your favorite method.
e. Which method do you need more help on? Write what aspect of this method you do not understand or need practice on.
f. Any additional information that you found interesting or helpful.
5. This blog is another great tool to see a 3-sided comparison for each method.
