T his is my first article in my educational life and it was written by the

inspiration made by my SENIORS.One day,I was lying on bed and seeing my

ceiling fan.As the fan rotated,my mind also rotated thinking that how fan
is working, what is the principle behind it,etc.

Ceiling fan was first discovered by Philip Diehl in 1882.The below diagram
shows the parts of the ceiling fan motor.in addition to this, fan blades, hooks, etc.
STATOR:

As the polarity of current changes,a rotating magnetic field is created. This

magnetic field induces current in the laminations of the rotor, causing it to spin
around the stationary stator as like in the fidget spinnerin which ball
bearings(rotor)spins around the center point(stator).

ROTOR:
The rotor is positioned at an angle from the stator. The distance between
these two and the geometry of them makes 2 out of phase magnetic field.Since
the rotor repels the rotating magnetic field, the fan starts spinning.

FIDGET SPINNER:

HOUSING:

This is the outer covering that envelops the rotor as it revolves on the
bearings around the stator and also the fan blades are attached to it.
FAN BLADES:

It is the long wing-like structure attached to the housing. The circulation of

air is due to the rotation of the fan blqdes. They are mainly made of stainless steel.
FAN BLADE IRONS:

They are also known as BRACKETS.It is the thing which connects the fan
blades to the motor.
FLY WHEEL:

A flywheel is a rotating mechanical device that stores rotational

energy given out by the rotor. This is a plastic or rubber appendage(an additional
thing of more important) that is attached to the motor body.It connects the fan
blade irons to the motor. The inner ring of the flywheel is locked to the shaft by a
screw and the blade irons are attached to the outer ring.
TYPES OF JOINTS:

 Ball and socket joint

 J-hook

 U-bolt
WORKING OF CEILING FAN:

The ceiling fan has a motor that converts electrical energy into mechanical
energy.First, the capacitor torques up the motor, thereby causing it to run.as the
current reaches the coils of wire,a magnetic field is produced which creates force
in a clockwise motion. In this way, electrical energy is converted into mechanical
energy and causes the motor coils to spin.

As the motor rotates, housing also rotates.Due to this, fan bades also

rotate thereby giving air.The air supply depends on the length of the blades too.

 The fan does not cool the air in the surroundings. The chillness is due to the
air from the fan interacts with the sweat on our body.Due to density, warm
air comes up and the fan circulates the warm air.
BLADE LENGTH SPECIFICATIONS:

 36-inch ceiling fan is suitable for room measuring up to 75 square

feet.

 42-inch is suitable for 76 to 144 square feet.

 44-inch is for 145 to 225 square feet.

 54-inch is for 226 to 400 square feet.
