I. INTRODUCTION
This course aims to engage students in appreciation and critical study of 21st Century Literature from
the Philippines and the World encompassing their various dimensions, genres, elements, structures,
contexts, and traditions.
Literature is defined as any body or collection of written work. More restrictively, literature refers
to writing considered to be an art form or any single writing deemed to have artistic or intellectual value,
and sometimes deploys language in ways that differ from ordinary usage. Its Latin
root literatura/litteratura (derived itself from littera: letter or handwriting) was used to refer to all written
accounts. Literature is classified according to whether it is fiction or non-fiction, and whether it
is poetry or prose. [1] Today, you will be learning about Philippine Literary History from Pre-colonial to
the Contemporary Period.
III. PRELIMINARIES
A. Pretest / Vocabulary
Let’s play Text Twist! You will be given definitions of words and you will guess the twisted texts.
1. YRTOPE This refers to those expressions in verse, with measure and rhyme,
line and stanza, and has a more melodious tone.
2. E RA LR ET UT I This refers to written works, especially those considered of superior
or lasting artistic merit.
3. O NA R Y T C O R E M P This means living or occurring at the same time.
4. ST IYORH This deals with the study and events in the past.

IV. EVALUATION
In a form of a poem, song, a drawing or an art, summarize the transition, the interrelatedness
and, appreciation of verbal and written works from the past to the present.
