Topic: The Church and God’s Gift of Salvation
I. INTRODUCTION
Jesus is the source and goal of the entire life of the Church. True growth is only possible in obedience to
Him. If the Church detaches from Him and His word, it cannot grow however active and successful it
may seem to be.

2. To manifest that the Church is inaugurated by Christ.

Activity 2: Church Teachings
We read from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) that the Church was born from the
Father’s plan as a sacrament of salvation for all of us.
 The eternal Father, in accordance with the utterly gratuitous and mysterious design of his wisdom
and goodness, created the whole universe, and chose to raise up men to share in his own divine

life,” to which he calls all men in his Son. “The Father . . . determined to call together in a holy
Church those who should believe in Christ.” This “family of God” is gradually formed and takes
shape during the stages of human history, in keeping with the Father’s plan. In fact, “already
present in figure at the beginning of the world, this Church was prepared in marvelous fashion in
the history of the people of Israel and the old alliance. Established in this last age of the world, and
made manifest in the outpouring of the Spirit, it will be brought to glorious completion at the end of
time. (CCC 759)
 It was the Son’s task to accomplish the Father’s plan of salvation in the fullness of time. Its
accomplishment was the reason for his being sent. “The Lord Jesus inaugurated his Church by
preaching the Good News, that is, the coming of the Reign of God, promised over the ages in the
scriptures.” To fulfill the Father’s will, Christ ushered in the Kingdom of heaven on earth. The
Church “is the Reign of Christ already present in mystery.” (CCC 763)

1. In what way do we see the Church as part of the Father’s plan?

2. Who make up the family of God?
3. In what way did Christ inaugurate the Church?

ACTIVITY 3:
We are fully aware that salvation is offered to everyone and that God’s love for the world is so
great that anyone who believes in Christ is given to the blessing of salvation. Salvation is offered to us
by God through Christ and we respond in faith.
Salvation is for life of joy and peace and abundant living. From the very beginning, God’s
concern was always for obtaining justice for the oppressed and providing the needs for the weakest
members of our community. There is a special call for all of us to act with fairness and generosity not
simply as individuals but as a believing community. God’s people are to respond to this call of justice
whether or not the other people around them or the nations to which they reside cooperate or agree.
Our path toward salvation as a Church is a way of life where persons are freed from the effects of sin
and freed for the love and power of God in their lives. It is a reality that salvation is something
available in this life. But we should also look forward to its future aspect since the saved belong to God
and will be cared for by God even in life after death.
