Title: Transitive and intransitive Verbs

Objectives: To identify transitive and intransitive verbs and use them in writing.

Action Verbs
An action verb tells what action someone or something is performing.
EX.
The crowd cheered widely when the team scored.
Ali thought he knew the answer.
I think Ahmed scored two goals.

Transitive and intransitive Verbs


An action verb is transitive if the receiver of the action is named in the sentence.
Examples:
Amen opened the door with great difficulty.
The bus suddenly hit a nearby tree.
My mother grows vegetables and flowers in her garden.
An action verb is intransitive if there is no receiver of the action named in the sentence.
Omar runs fast.
Clouds gathered before the storm
The work crew never arrives on time.
The pilot flew the plane.
The plane flew to Mexico.
