Product Information Bulletin

October 2019 – Cummins Westport now recommends using only Cummins

Engineering Standard (CES) 20092 compliant oils in all stoichiometric combustion
mid-range and heavy-duty natural gas engines

As announced in previous Product Information Bulletins, CES 20092 provides significantly

improved oxidation and thermal stability compared to mobile oils formerly recommended
for use in stoichiometric combustion natural gas engines (CES 20074 and CES 20085).

All Cummins Westport natural gas engine models—ISX12 G, ISX12N, ISL G, L9N, ISB6.7
G, and B6.7N—will benefit from a transition to CES 20092 oils, which deliver a more
modern oil additive system and stronger antioxidant combination for greater protection at
the high temperatures experienced in modern natural gas engines.

• CES 20092 is completely backwards compatible with CES 20085.

• All customers currently using CES 20085 or CES 20074 oils should transition to
CES 20092 oils by December 31, 2019.

• Lean burn legacy engines should continue using CES 20074 oils until further notice.

Will this new oil category have any effect on my oil analysis?

Considering new additives will be required to qualify oils for CES 20092 performance, oil
analysis will be impacted and a new baseline oil sample should be submitted to your used
oil analysis lab.

How should I change over my bulk supply tank?

We recommend customers run their bulk tanks to the lowest volume possible when
converting over to the new specification of oil. This will allow them to take full advantage of
the improved properties, which include better oxidation performance and durability.
