COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course deals with the study of the characteristics of Criminal Law, the nature and classification of felonies, the circumstances affecting criminal liability and
the extent and extinction of criminal liabilities as well as the civil liability of the offender, the nature, manner of computation of penalties, complex crimes, habitual
delinquency, juvenile delinquency, the application of the Indeterminate Sentence Law and the Probation Law. The course covers Book One of the Revised Penal Code
from Article 1 to Article 113 and related laws.

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course will enable students to acquire conceptual knowledge and proficiency of the characteristics of Criminal Law in the Philippines, Felonies, the
circumstances affecting criminal liability and the extent and extinction of criminal liabilities as well as the civil liability of the offender, the nature, manner of
computation of penalties, complex crimes, habitual delinquency, juvenile delinquency, the application of the Indeterminate Sentence Law and the Probation Law.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

Generally, after successfully completing the course, the students can:

1. Understand the origin of criminal in the Philippines and its characteristics, the meaning of Felony and the circumstances that affects its commission, the
kinds of penalty that may be imposed by law, persons criminally liable and the extinction of crimes and penalties as well as civil liability of an offender.
2. Understand the application of Indeterminate sentence law and the Probation Law
3. Explain and contrast rules on Felonies and those punished by Special Criminal Laws.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR THE COURSE:

The students are expected to have basic knowledge of Philippine constitution, particularly the bill of rights.

3. Resource materials shall be uploaded and can be downloaded through Google Drive.
4. Online lectures will be conducted using Zoom Meet and video recordings.
