The ZXR10 M6000-S-8S heat dissipation system consists of the following components:
l Five fan modules, including two fans and one fan monitoring board in each module
3-15
l Temperature sensors: The temperature sensors are at the chassis air inlets and the
boards. The temperature sensors control the fan speed in accordance with the air
inlet temperature and key chip temperature detected by the fan monitoring board,
thus accomplishing temperature control of important components.
l System ducts
l Air filter
The fans used in this system are dual-reverse fans. There are two rotors in each fan. The
fan modules can automatically adjust their rotation speeds in accordance with the real-time
temperature. When a rotor fails, the other rotor and other fans will operate. When a single
fan fails, the heat dissipation system can maintain the temperature of the operating device
below 40℃ for a short term.
Air Directions
For the air ducts and power supply heat dissipation mode of the ZXR10 M6000-S-8S
chassis, see Figure 3-15. The air enters the chassis from the front bottom and lateral
bottoms, and leaves the chassis from the back top. In a DC power supply module, the air
enters the module from the back lateral bottom. The air outlets of the DC power supply
module are the same as those of the system air duct. The two air ducts use the same
group of fans.
The system automatically calculates and adjusts the fan speed. The fan speed is adjusted
on the basis of gears 1-4. If the fan speed is less than 1200 rpm, the fan state is abnormal.

Function
The SRU board is used on ZXR10 M6000-S-8S and ZXR10 M6000-S-5S routers. An SRU
board consists of an MPU and an SFU. The MPU is responsible for system management
and routing. The SRU is responsible for high-speed switching of packets in the system.
To ensure the system high-reliability, the two MPUs on SRU boards implement 1+1 backup.
The ZXR10 M6000-S-8S/5S supports two types of SRU boards: M6KS-SRU-A and
M6KS-SRU-1A. The SRU board provides the following functions:
l Manages and maintains the router to ensure that all line interface boards operate
properly, so that the router routes and forwards Internet Protocol (IP) packets normally.
l Provides the packet switching function.
l Processes dynamic routing protocols, including Routing Information Protocol (RIP),
Open Shortest Path First version 2 (OSPFv2), Border Gateway Protocol-4 (BGP-4)
and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) version 2, maintains the global
routing table, and ensures that the local routing tables of line interface boards are
consistent with the global routing table.
l Supports the Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol stack
completely.
l Provides the reset function, in-position signal collection and active/standby indicator
signals for SFU boards, PFU boards, and Ethernet Switch Unit (ESU) boards.
l Manages line interface boards, including power-on control and SJTAG management.
l Provides interfaces for operation and management of the router system to implement
maintenance, configuration and management on the router.
l Provides the system environment monitoring function, including monitoring the states
of fans and power supplies.

6.2 MPU
Function
The MPU board is used on ZXR10 M6000-S-3S routers. It is responsible for system
management and routing.
To ensure the system high-reliability, two MPU boards are used on the ZXR10 M6000-S-3S
chassis for 1+1 backup.
The ZXR10 M6000-S-3S supports two types of MPU boards: M6KS-MPU-A and
M6KS-MPU-1A. The MPU board provides the following functions:
l Manages and maintains the router to ensure that all line interface boards operate
properly, so that the router routes and forwards IP packets normally.
l Processes dynamic routing protocols, including RIP, OSPFv2, BGP-4 and SNMPv2,
maintains the global routing table, and ensures that the local routing table of each line
interface board is consistent with the global routing table.
l Supports the TCP/IP protocol stack.
l Provides the reset function, in-position signal collection and active/standby indicator
signals for SFU boards, PFU boards, and ESU boards.
6-9
l Manages line interface boards, including power-on control and SJTAG management.

6-23
The line interface board converts data between the physical layer and the data link layer.
After a line interface board receives and converts a data frame, it sends the data to a packet
processing board. The forwarding engine finds out the destination port and implements
high-speed forwarding.
On line interface boards, there are two types of interface sub-units:
l SONET/SDH interface: The format of the frame encapsulated in the data link layer is
PPP in HDLC.
l Ethernet interface: The format of the frame encapsulated in the link layer is EthernetII.
A PFU board can provide access to different types of services, such as POS and Ethernet.
It saves the number of slots in the system.
Interface Numbering
The format of an interface number is “chassis number/board slot number/daughter card
number/port number”, described as follows:
l Chassis number: The ZXR10 M6000-S-S router does not support clusters. The
chassis number is 0.
l Board slot number: The board slot number of the ZXR10 M6000-S-8S chassis ranges
from 0 to 7. The board slot number of the ZXR10 M6000-S-5S chassis ranges from 0
to 4. The board slot number of the ZXR10 M6000-S-3S chassis ranges from 0 to 2.
l Daughter card number: 0–3.
l Port number: It depends on the numbers of ports supported by a specific interface
board, which starts from 1.
For example, to configure the eighth port of GE daughter card 0 which is plugged in slot 2
of chassis 0, run the following command to enter the interface configuration mode:
ZXR10(config)#interface fei-0/2/0/8
For the numbering of daughter cards of 1/2 height and 1/4 height on the interface boards
of the ZXR10 M6000-S-8S chassis, see Figure 6-11.

Both crossover and straight-through Ethernet cables are standard shielded cables that use
RJ45 connectors. For the structure of an Ethernet cable, see Figure 7-7.

The fiber core is the optical transmission component at the core. It is made of silicon or
glass. The chemical compositions of a fiber core are partially different from those of the
cladding layer, so that the light entering at a specified angle is reflected continuously by the
fiber core and cladding layer. Therefore, light remains in the fiber core during the whole
transmission process.
7-6
Connectors at the two ends of the optical fiber can be of the same type or different types.
For the connector pairing and usage, refer to Table 7-7.
