Article Review

This assignment is intended to review the articles which written by Andy C.L. Yeung
Department of Logistics, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong
Kong, China Available online 26 June 2007 on the title of Strategic supply management,
quality initiatives, and organizational performance. Accordingly, my review supporting
with the reference of research and course related knowledge presented as follows.
Introduction
In the past two decades, supply management experts in the supply chain management system hav
e found that supply management should not be just a supply chain integration tool, it should be a
strategic tool. Supply management, the foundation of the integration of global supply chains, has
emerged as a core field of study.
The title of the study is Strategic supply management, quality initiatives, and

organizational performance. The title is very short and clear, but in somehow it has an
attribute of out of sight signal if the reader is not given a due attention. The researcher Point out
that, on the basis of quantitative and qualitative investigation performed by 225 elections
manufacturing firms, they analyzed the organizational impact of strategic supply management
and the contexts of company size, process type, ISO 9000 certification and quality management
QM implementation that promote this initiatives.

The researchers have also shown that supply chain management essentially required bilateral
effort to boost performance and thus does not apply to particular ISO 9000 and Supply chain
management required for increased time shipping, lowering operating costs and promoting
customer satisfaction and better operational efficiency.
 The Supply Chain Management is not a quality management initiative. Founded on
contemporary supply chain and quality management, this study strengthens their
understanding of quality, Supply chain management and organizational performance.
This article suggested that;
Supply chain management as one of the constant development efforts following
completed qualitative interventions was also proposed. Supply Chain Management
should operate in conjunction with the establishment of a favorable quality culture
that is dedicated to enhancing its management across organizational frontiers.
They further not that SSSM is not necessarily limited and does not depend on process
type in large corporations. SSM can be seen as a bilateral simultaneous effort to
improve the procurement, supply and distribution between buyer and supplier
companies. Thus, SSM may also achieve major competitive advantage for a small
firm that operates through a work shop phase.
Their research provides important evidence for the positive organizational impact of
SSM for senior management in the electronics industry. they found that SSM mainly
assists buyers in timely and cost efficient operation contributing to better market
result and customer satisfaction.
The literatures of the study are very comprehensive, the researchers are tried to incorporate
Quality initiatives, company size, process type, and supply chain Management, external
environment and within supply chain Management and organizational performance the firms
industry.
Methodology of Study
A pilot trial of six electronics companies was performed methodologically before a wide ranging
survey was conducted. Case studies for the survey questioner were carried out in this firm. A
sample of the survey was taken from the electronic industry directory of Hong Kong.
The analysis consists of both measurable and non observable variables. The scale, process type
and certification of the organization, and ISO 9000 are measurable and can be directly
calculated.
In this study, the investigator has evaluated four aspects of organizational efficiency. They
include time based operational performance, Cost Effectiveness’, Customer satisfaction and
business performance. The Researchers did not explicitly indicate the methods of data collection,
both primary and secondary.

The data analysis method is the really autonomous, efficient and executive management
business. The data analysis method is unique, Companies which agreed to participate in this
study has to nominate a senior official, typically such as the managing director or a director, to
administer the questioner in various departments and serve as a contact point for the
investigation. When necessary, the administrator also arranged interview for the researchers.
Result of the study
The thesis or proposal of the research suggested that supply Chain Management is
facilitated by a quality initiative. Quality management and Supply Chain Management
appear embedded in very similar guidelines.
This causes SSM by QM organizations. As regard the working environment that enable
supply Chain Management, it appears that SSM can be initiated irrespective of company
size or process type. They also show that SSM is positively connected to time and cost
effectiveness such as on time shipment and quality cost, contributing to customer loyalty
and superior corporate performance.
General Observation
The researcher’s interest in enchaining organizational efficiency only grows more and
more because it perceived from multiple viewpoints and by different paradigms. The
transition in the way organizations operate has changed in most organization as a result of
ethnological growth and innovation.

Therefore, in this era of information economics, the present scenario achieves total
quality control within an enterprise should control of quality must be achieved,
Therefore, in order to incorporate both in the prediction of organizational achievement, it
is important to demonstrate the interrelationship between Total Quality Management and
Supply Chain Management and its interdependence. In relation to organizational
efficiency, it is then necessary to identify the Two.
 The management of Supply change is an important element of the company.
The supply china will accomplish its target in their strategic, tactical and
organizational levels if the business is operating efficiently.
The supply Chain Management, at the strategic level, the company decides how the
supply chain management works. tactic means which things has to be included in supply
chain which will help the organization to achieve their goals and operations means how it
will exactly work.
There is also a clear link between supply chain management and corporate goals.
Organizations have different objectives which must be fulfilled by the organization in
order to support their supply chain Management.
 Finally, I observed and confirmed that the research have a limitation of took a
highly simplistic quality management scale, because of simplicity regarding as
contextual variable. The realization of a Quality Management is seen as one of
the organizational contexts that could affect the adoption of Supply Chain
Management.
In the overall quality scheme, quality management treated as a strategic
initiative and we have therefore not investigated the scope and depth of each
quality management.
