Dear Lachlan,

Last Sunday, The Honest Men Trust (THMT) invited its members and all Ayr United supporters to
submit their comments on the current situation affecting Rangers and Scottish football. At this point it
was apparent that, following intense pressure from fans, SPL clubs will vote against Rangers
remaining in the top flight when they meet on Wednesday. Subsequently, a proposal has been sent
to SFL clubs which would see Rangers enter the First Division in exchange for a cash incentive and
structural changes to the current set up.

The message from the many Ayr United fans who have responded is unanimous and unequivocal: as
with any club, rules should not be bent, broken, invented or ignored to accommodate Rangers.
This means the ‘newco’ should apply to join the Third Division if the SPL vote to exclude them.

THMT, like many football supporters up and down the land, support league reconstruction and
changes to the game that will make it more competitive, more equitable and more attractive. We back
the Fans’ Plan for the Future of Scottish Football – key recommendations to shape the future of
Scottish football based on widespread consultation and a detailed analysis of the issues facing the
game. Unfortunately, what we have from those at Hampden is not a model to advance Scottish
football but a threat which would support and perpetuate a seemingly financially and morally bankrupt
model, the SPL.

Rangers playing in the Third Division may have financial implications for Scottish football and for Ayr
United. However, the prospect of tens of thousands of football fans walking away from the
game is real if Rangers enter the First Division next season. To paraphrase the excellent statement
from Clyde FC: The fact that other clubs might face similar financial distress because Rangers enter
the Third Division is hardly a reason to compromise the integrity of the game.

The comments we have received from fans are attached to this letter. I would urge you take the
sentiment and strength of feeling articulated within them into account when deciding how Ayr United
responds to the decisions facing Scottish football over the coming weeks.

Yours sincerely

John Dalton
