- What is House Keeping?


One department on the ship that responsible for the cleanlines of the ship and to keep the ship
clean and sanitized.

- How many area that HSKP responsible & mention the places?
Guest Area : Guest cabin/stateroom, balconies, guest hallways, room service, guest laundry
Public Area : Casino, restaurants, discotheque, guest bars, guest spa/gym, gift shop,
Internet cafe, swimming pools, jacuzzies, etc.
Crew Area : Crew laundry, crew mess, crew bar, crew internet cafe, crew cabin,
Crew infirmary, crew gangways, etc.

- Chart of management of HSKP?


 House Keeping Mgr/Chief Stewards
 Assistant HSKP Mgr : 2.5, 2, 1 Bars
 House Keeping Supervisors : Pool & Deck Spv, Floor Spv
 Cabin/Stateroom Steward

- Main duties of HSKP?


Cleaning (removing dirt), Sanitizing, and Maintaining

- How many type of cleaning?


Dusting, moping, wiping, vaccuming, scrubbing, brushing, stripping, polishing, buffing, etc

- Cleaning equipment (non machine)?


Dustpan & broom, mopstick & mop bucket, brushes, cleaning pads, sponge, cleaning cloth, glass
wiper, squeeze, multi purpose duster, cleaning pads (black, red, green, white)

- Caution Sign/Yellow Sign?


 It’s yellow safety sign to protect ourselves from complaining related with safety issue,
And to avoid the accident for the guest or crew while we’re working
 It is yellow sign to block the area when we are working to avoid the accident

- Cleaning machine equipment?


Rotation machine, shampoo machine, blower, water gun, buffing machine, fogging machine, steam
machine, etc

- Cleaning chemical?
Bathroom cleaner, glass cleaner, sanitizer, detergent, vomitt powder, metal polish, wood polish,
leather polish, bleach/chlorine, gum remover, MPC (Multi Purpose Chemical)

- What is the duties of Cabin Steward?


Clean the guest cabin : dusting all guest room surfaces, electrical equipments, clean balconies and
hallways together with the assistant, sanitizing all the guest cabin surfaces.
Making beds, fullfil all guest requestition, and make sure all in area are clean, neat, sanitized and all
electrical equipments are working properly befor closing the door.

- What is the duties of Assistant Cabin Steward?


Assiting cabin steward to clean the guest cabin by : cleaning, scrubbing and sanitizing the guest
bathroom, complete the bathroom amenities, room amenities, sanitizing the ice bucket, glass
amenities; vaccuming guest room carpet, removing/clear up the dirty dishes from the room service,
and together with cabin steward maintain the cleanlines and sanitizing of the guest cabin,
balconies, and hallways.

- What is the duties of Public Area Attendant/HSKP Cleaner?


Follow the HSKP supervisor orders regarding the area assignment to clean, either in Public Area
and/or Crew area; maintain the high standard of cleaning : dusting all surfaces, sweeping, scrubbing
the floor, polishing/buffing the hard floor, vaccuming carpet, cleaning and sanitizing all the public
toilets, etc.

- What is the duties of Pool Attendant?


Fullday taking care of cleanlines and sanitizing of the swimming pool area : swimming pools,
jacuzzis, water slides, children pools, towel counters, all recreation areas in open deck, all deck
chairs, all pool public toilets, deck floors around the pool, and pool water channels

What did you do with :


 Swimming pools/Children pools/Jacuzzies :
Cleaning/scrubbing, sanitizing, and maintain the cleanlines inside & outside around the pool
and/or jacuzzies.
 Water slides :
Cleaning/scrubbing & sanitizing the water slide during the water slide closed, maintain the
cleanlines. And guiding the guest during the water slide operation. Maintain the guest flow to
enjoy the water slide one by one for the safety reason.
 Recreation areas, such as basket ball court, 8 holes putting golf, jogging track, volley ball court,
climbing walls, etc :
To maintain the cleanlines of those areas.
 Towel/Recreation tools counter :
Incharge for distributing the pool towels, taking care of the dirty towels, maintain the
flow/circulation of the pool towels, and recreation equipments. Make sure that clean towels
and/or recreation equipments are available at all times.
 Deck Chairs/Pool Long Chairs :
Morning time ; unpack and arrange the chairs, spread and put all the chairs on all pools areas
evenly/properly.
Evening till midnite/closing time ; pack all the chairs, tight it firmly, and store it in designated
areas properly.
On certain times, clean/scrubing all the deck chairs at regularly schedule.

 Tables around the swimming pool areas :


Asssisting the restaurant and/or bar waiters to clear up the dirty dishes such as dirty plates,
glasses, cutleries, napkins coming from the restaurant or bars near the swimming pool, and
bring it to the main galley.
 All public toilets in the swimming pool area :
Cleaning/scrubbing and sanitizing the toilets, maintain the cleanlines of the toilets and make
sure all public toilet amenities are refilled.
 Deck floors and water channels :
Cleaning and scrubing, make sure all the deck floor are clean and dry

Note :
If you see a kid running on the deck floor, what are you going to do?
I will immediately run after the kid, remind him not to run on the deck and try to find their
parents then bring him/her in the safe place or to their parents.

- Basic cleaning of the hard floor?


Sweeping/vaccuming, brushing, scrubbing, stripping, buffing, moping, polishing
Type of hard floor : Tile/Ceramic & Wooden floor

- How do you scrubb the hard floor?


Put the caution sign & wear PPE, prepare the cleaning equipment, apply water & soap on the floor,
scrub the floor properly, rinse the floor & squeeze the water, sanitize the floor with bleach, and dry
it with the clean mopstick or blower

- Basic cleaning of the carpet?


Vacumming, removing the spot/spotting, shampooing

- How do vaccuming the carpet?


Put 2 caution signs & wear the PPE, 1 caution sign put in the middle of the area you’re vaccuming,
1 put near the electrical socket, check the vaccum machine, start vaccuming properly, and keep on
eye in the area you’re vaccuming to avoid the accident
How many type of vaccum cleaner?
2 type of vaccum machine : Dry vaccum machine & Wet vaccum machine/extraction machine

- How do you clean the vomitt :


On the hard floor?
Block the area, put caution sign & wear PPE, put the vomitt powder over the vomitt object, wait
until it dry, sweep the dry vomitt & put in the special plastic bag, sanitize the floor, and dry it with
the clean cloth/mopstick
On the carpet?
Block the area, put caution sign & wear PPE, put the vomitt powder over the vomitt object, wait
until it dry, sweep the dry vomitt & put in the special plastic bag, spray the air freshner over the wet
carpet, and dry it with clean cloth/blower. If the the area infected is big enough, we have to
shampoo the carpet

- How do you clean the broken glass?


Block the area, put the caution sign & wear the PPE, sweep the broken glass and/or vaccum the
broken glass on small pieces, wipe/dry it the spill with the clean cloth/mopstick

- How do you clean the toilet?


Put the caution sign/cleaning in progress sign, & wear PPE, take out the garbage bin, flush the
toilet, spray the bathroom cleaner on all surfaces in the toilet; wall, floor, sink, toilet bowl, drain,
etc wait 5-10 minutes for chemical to work, scrubb all the surfaces, rinse it with the warm/cold
water, sanitize all the toilet surfaces with sanitizer/bleach, dry it with clean cloth, and refill the
toilet amenities
What is toilet amenities?
Handsoap, hand tissue, toilet paper/roll, sanitary bag

- How do you clean the bathroom?


Put the caution sign/Cleaning in progress sign (only in public area), & wear PPE, take out the
garbage bin and soiled towels, flush the toilet, spray the bathroom cleaner on all surfaces in the
bathroom; wall, floor, sink, toilet bowl, drain, corners, etc wait 5-10 minutes for chemical to work,
scrubb all the surfaces, rinse it with the warm/cold water, sanitize all the bathroom surfaces with
sanitizer/bleach, dry it with clean cloth, and refill the bathroom amenities
What is bathroom amenities?
Towel, shower gel, shampoo, handsoap, tissue, toilet paper/roll, sanitary bag, bathroom glass

- How many kind of towel?


4 kind of towel : Bath towel, hand towel, wash/face towel, bathmat
Note : It is absolutely prohibited using towel to clean the bathroom

- What is the different Bathroom & Toiletroom?


Bathroom has a shower place & toilet bowl, toilet room does not have a shower place

Cleaning the Cleaning Equipment :

- How do you clean the shower head ?


Take out the shower head from the shower pipe, remove part of shower head, wash & scrub it with
water & soap, rinse it, sanitize with bleach, wipe & dry, then put it back all the part of shower head
- How do you clean the vaccum machine ?
Take out the head of vaccum machine, remove the vaccum bag if full, wash & scrub part of the
vaccum machine outside & inside, like vaccum container, pipe, hose, wire and brush the vacuum
head, rinse it all with warm/cold water then wipe & dry with clean cloth. Finally, put the new
vaccum bag, and put it back all part of vacuum machine

- What is P.P.E stand for?


Personnal Protection Equipment
Purpose : to protect ourselves from accident & strong chemical
Kind of P.P.E?
Hand gloves, mask/masker, googles, helmet, safety shoes, earplug, apron, safety belt, etc

- What is Sanitation mean?


 To kill the bacteria, germ or viruses
 To eliminate spreading of bacteria, virus or germs

What chemical to use to sanitize? : Sanitizer and/or bleach/chlorine

- How many method of sanitation ?


4 Method of sanitations :
1. Wiping : using cleaning cloth for all surfaces that can reach by our hands
2. Moping : using mopstick & mop bucket for all surfaces of the hard floors
3. Spraying/Fogging : using bottle sprayer or fogging machine to sanitize the air
4. Using 3 Bucket System
- What is 3 Bucket System?
3 different colour of bucket sanitization method :
 Red Bucket : contain of water & soap/soapy water to wash/scrub
 Grey Bucket : contain of water only to rinse
 White Bucket : consist of cold water & bleach (100ppm) to sanitize
Explain it?
 Clean and scrubb all the equipment in the red bucket
 Rinse it in the grey bucket
 Put all the equipment in the white bucket to sanitize & leave it for 5-10 minutes
 Take out & dry it with clean cloth

- What is Cross Contamination mean?


Transfer bacteria or germ from one place to another place

Example of Cross Contamination ?


 Using the same mopstick to mop/clean different place/area
 Using the same knive to cut different meat/food
 Using the same cleaning cloth to clean different area
 Mixing the clean equipment with dirty equipment
 Mixing raw fruit with the ripe fruit

How do you avoid the cross contamination?


 Always wash our hands often
 We can not use the same cloth to clean another place

 We can not use the same knife to cut the different meat
 We can not mix the clean dishes with the dirty one

- How do you keep your body hygine?


 Wash our hands on the running water often
 Take a shower 2-3 times a day
 Brush our teeth often
 Cut our nails regularly & cut our hair nicely
 Use PPE

- Why do you keep your body hygine?


To keep our body healthy & fresh at all times, especially when we start to work

- What is Garbage Separation?


We have to separate the garbage in different color of garbage bins for safety & recycle reason
Explain the garbage separation bins?
 Yellow garbage bin : using for food waste only
 Grey garbage bin : using for solid waste : plastic, paper, broken glass, wood
 Blue garbage bin : using for Can only
 Red garbage bin : using for hazardouz waste/medical waste/human waste
example: used injection, tampon, pampers, condom, vomitt, etc

- Can we mix the cleaning chemical?


No, it will be dangerous for our safety, and every chemical has a different purpose

- Can we use the cleaning chemical bottle without label?


No, because we don’t know what is the purpose of that chemical
And what will you do?
I will put aside that chemical bottle and report to the supervisor immediately

- Why we always try to maintain the area clean, neat, tidy & sanitized
 To avoid cross contamination/to eliminate cross contamination
 To make the area look clean, smell fresh, so the guest will feel happy, comfortable, satisfy and
secure

- In the hotel on landbase, why they call like 4 or 5 stars hotel?


Because they have :
-Complete & international standard of facility
-Excellent service
-Luxury room feature
