ABSTRACT

Nowadays, there are many types of insulation material has been used to reduce the

use of electrical energy. All the materials that has been used are different in quality,

size and price. The various material have many advantage and disadvantages.

Such as durable, lightweight and high resistance in moisture. Usually thermal

insulation in a country that have cold climate. The insulation will prevent the heat

flowing outside. In Malaysia which is having hot climate and humid throughout the

year make the use of insulation are not practical to restore the heat inside house.

Therefore, the use of insulation in Malaysia is to prevent the heat flow into the

house. Due to the electrical energy that being use is increase day by day make the

insulation is one of the way to reduce the uses of electrical energy. Therefore, this

study aim is to compare the material use as thermal insulation in commercial and

residential building. The method used was interview and case study. Interview was

done with quantity surveyors and supplier. From the interview, case studies for this

research will acquired. From the interviews, the type of material used as insulation in

commercial building and residential building has been identify. The material used for

commercial building can be extruded polystyrene and aluminium foil. While

residential building is aluminium foil. Aluminium foil is being used to reflect the heat

and the uses of electrical energy also reduce therefor, aluminium foil is a material

that can use as thermal insulation material in Malaysia for any type of buildings.
