Students will write a page long essay using Google Docs focusing on one of the seven wonders and list the main the characteristics of it, where it is/was located and why they found this one to be the most intriguing. Materials: Computers, Internet Access, Google Docs, Notebooks, Pens/Pencils & PowerPoint presentation to teach about the 7 Wonders Lead-In: This presentation involving the seven wonders will engage students into learning the history and acknowledging the beauty of the ancient world. It also gives students a chance to use technology to conduct further research and Google Docs to create shareable essays. Step by Step: The lesson will be starting by asking the class interactive questions; “What/Where is the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen or been to?” Students will be asked more interactive questions such as if they have ever seen or heard of any of these Wonders before. If they believe they have or know where it is located have them come up to the front of the classroom and point out on a world map where they believe it is located. This will bring us to the beginning of the PowerPoint presentation introducing the 7 Wonders of the World and how some are no longer around. There will be individual slides for each Wonder that goes into further detail on them specifically: locations, times/eras, etc. At the end of the Power Point there will be a quick guide to pulling up Google Docs and using it to write a one-page paper on a wonder of their choice. Independent Practice: After the Power Point presentations students will conduct further research into one of the 7 Wonders that were gone over and use Google Docs to write a paper on why they found this Wonder to be the most interesting to them. What features, times, characteristics they found most engaging and then share with their classmates. Accommodations: Students who may need more help or have ELL, or have trouble keeping up with the lesson or conducting research on their own will be worked with one on one, given instructions in a similar format so that they may be able to participate but at a speed they feel more comfortable with. Closure: Once students have completed their research and written their one page papers on their selected Wonder they will present to the class their understanding of the specific landmark, characteristics, background info. Assessment: Students will be evaluated based on participation during the Power Point presentation and class discussions. They will also be evaluated on the research conducted on their specific Wonder of choice and how their papers are formatted and the details they provide in their papers showing a true understanding on the topic they have chosen. Possible Connections to Other Subjects: Geography: Students can learn where these Wonders are located and be able to point them out on a map or explain where on the planet these are located at History: Students can explain the historical context behind each of the historical landmarks and understand the meaning during the time they were created
