PAUSE

On Tuesday 29 April 2003, at 06.15 hours the duty officer of the police station # 2 received a
telephone call about the theft of a car. The caller identified herself as a 47-year-old nurse from
the local hospital. She stated that she witnessed a theft of vehicle incident, which occurred 10
minutes ago in the parking space near the stadium, located at Sport Street –85.
Immediately, a police patrol was dispatched to the scene of the incident.
The two police officers arrived at the scene at 06.30 hrs. On arrival at the location the officers
observed broken glass, a pair of black leather gloves and a hammer, lying on the ground. They
collected fragments of the broken window, the hammer and the gloves for evidence.
The officers concluded that the vehicle thief had broken the driver’s side window with the
hammer to gain entry into the locked vehicle.
The witness stated that every morning at 06.00 hours, she used to walk with her dog near the
stadium. She knew, that the stolen car belonged to her neighbor a 65-year-old retired doctor.
The witness described the stolen car as a white colored 4-door sedan with a sticker across the
rear window in block capital letters “Sun Rise”. The witness could not notice license number
of the car, because she witnessed the car theft from the distance of 20 meters.
The witness also stated that she observed the offender as being about twenty years of age,
with a shaved head, 180 cm tall, heavy build dressed in blue jeans and black sweater. The car
drove North direction from the town.
The witness accompanied the policemen to the victim’s flat. At 06.45 hrs they knocked on his
door. The retired doctor was awake. He opened the door, holding a cup of coffee in his left
hand and was surprised to see the two police officers and the neighbor this early hour.
The policemen advised the victim about the theft of his car and asked the victim to show
registration documents for his car. Having learned the license number as 586KS915, the
officers gave complete information on the police radio to all of the police vehicles on patrol to
be looking for a stolen vehicle.
At 07.30 hrs the car in question was found on the side of the road approximately 2 kilometers
away from the Power Station.
There was nobody in the car. The police also found a note on the passenger’s seat “Sorry
Father” written on a piece of paper. After checking the car, the police concluded, that the car
stopped, because there was no more benzene in the tank. The car was returned to the owner.
Estimated sum for the broken driver’s side window was 35 Euros. The victim refused to
record a compliant about the theft of his car, because the offender appeared to be his son.
The case is closed.
