ZESA WORKERS PRESS STATEMENT

OUR POSITION AS WORKERS

We as ZESA employees from various Constituencies within the ZESA Group

of Companies throughout the country have noted with serious concern and
dismay the unwarranted character assassination, criticism, scandalization,
mudslinging and unprofessional soiling of the good name of our Executive
Chairman Dr Sydney Z Gata at a time us the workers have witnessed a unique
rebirth of ZESA in terms of its service delivery to consumers as well as the fair
treatment of employees.

During these past three days, prophets of doom have not stopped at anything to
throw missiles at Dr Gata and in clear acts of paid hatchet-men, some news
reporters have been at pains to scandalise our Executive Chairman with the
Dr Sydney Z Gata
obvious backing of some dismissed elements that are yet to prove their purity at
an altar of an internal hearing that has been set for them to answer to corporate crimes that have in themselves bled ZESA to the wilt.

Before the appointment of Dr Gata to the position of Executive Chairman for the fourth time, employees in ZESA had been reduced
to destitution as past executives never bothered to care for their welfare as they only ensured that they corruptly continued to selfishly
pack their feeding trough with excess loot into their tummies.

It is quite clear and mind boggling that a series of newspaper reports that are aimed at dragging the good name of Dr. Gata in the mud
are coming from some elements that have been suspended from the organisation and are trying to divert attention from their wrong
deeds. We urge our Executive Chairman not to be swayed from making them face the music and should take decisive steps to dismiss
them.

We would like to take this opportunity to advise the nation in no uncertain terms as workers, we are solidly in support of Dr Gata and
any attempts to subvert his vision of transforming the business of ZESA would not be taken lightly but would attract a national
uprising in solidarity with his pro-worker and nation stance.

Under his leadership since his appointment in November 2019, Dr Gata has made the following distinguished successes to his sleeve:

1. IMPROVED LEVELS OF REMUNERATION

 Remuneration of employees has been and is being revised upwards in response to the hyper-inflationary environment at a
time the entire workforce had been reduced to destitution by the previous administration and his clique,

2. MISPLACED PRIORITIES OF THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION

 Prior to his appointment, a chocking and shocking $17Million had been spent to hire external lawyers and bribe the
justice system to ensure that workers do not get salary increases. In most cases, such outsourced services were done without
following tender procedures and some lawyers were handpicked through the influence of some fired managers who are
now not stopping at anything to drag the name of our Executive Chairman in the mud. We can only ask "Where is the
Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) when such thugs are walking scot free,

3. IMPROVED POWER SUPPLY/ NO MORE LOADSHEDDING

 We are almost out of winter and power supplies had been very stable with a vision of Dr Gata that resulted in the clearance of
power import arrears as well as the firming up of business relations with all our stakeholders for the viability of the power
sector,
 Those prophets of doom are now aiming at scandalising the Tuli mining project that is aimed at further stabilising the power
sector through additional injection of electricity to the national grid and one wonders on which side their patriotism falls,

4. PROCUREMENT OF TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

 Over the years, our plea for Tools and Equipment (T&E) had been falling on deaf ears and we had not been adequately
servicing our customers as the fired managers never prioritised our constructive call for resources. The coming in of Dr Gata
saw him committing to reequip the business and as workers, we see a bright future ahead of us and the nation at large,

5. IMPLEMENTATION OF SELFLESS HUMAN RESOURCES POLICIES

 With his selfless human resources policies, Dr Gata has resolved employee grievances and ZESA is getting closer to
industrial harmony, the development that distinguishes himself from other pseudo-executives who only think of fattening
their pockets at the expense of the toiling workers,
 In these hard economic times, Dr Gata has introduced a good staff welfare policy where the forgotten lot of widows of former
ZESA employees and their childrenare being taken care off while funerals that befall ZESA staff are being supported
materially and financially by the organisation. In this category, victims of electrical accidents are also catered for unlike in the
past where ZESA would spent millions of dollars to defend lawsuits against such unfortunate members,
 Dr Gata has personally attended 18 funerals of the 23 staff members who passed away including public members who were
killed by electrical accidents

6. THE INNOVATION HUB

 Through the wisdom of Dr Gata, an Innovation Hub is being formed where young and upcoming professionals come up
with ideas that are set to grow the power sector in line with technological innovations and skills,

7. CONFIRMATION OF PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT FOR CONTRACT WORKERS.

 He recently confirmed as permanent, employees with 5 years and above who have been working in ZESA as contract
workers.

8. RESOLVING THE 2012 CBA DISPUTE

 Dr Gata has proved that he is a leader with an inclination on improving the morale of the workers for industrial harmony; he
reached an agreement with the workers to settle the long dispute that has brought about disharmony in industrial relations in
the organisation, which has equally impacted negatively on worker performance in the organisation and service delivery.

OUR FINAL PLEA TO THE MINISTER OF ENERGY AND POWER DEVELOPMENT HONOURABLE F. CHASI
AND HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZIMBABWE CDE EMMERSON
DAMBUDZO MNANGAGWA IS TO GIVE DR GATA A CHANCE TO TURN AROUND THE FORTUNES OF
ZESA AS WE THE WORKERS ARE ABSOLUTELY HAPPY WITH HIS SELFLESS LEADERSHIP AND VISION.
HAD IT NOT BEEN OF THE CORONA PANDEMIC, WE WOULD HAVE STAGED A SOLIDARITY MARCH TO
PROTECT OUR LEADER FROM BEING HARMED BY CORRUPT AND FIRED MANAGERS WHO WERE
FINGERED IN THE FORENSIC AUDIT.
