PROGRESS REPORT ON GROUP ASSIGNMENT
GROUP NUMBER B2
DATE OF SUBMISSION 28.09.2020
GROUP MEMBERS Anusha S (P41070), Bhagya Shree Raj(P41074), Satyajit
Prasad(P41107), Sharan Verma(P41110), Vijay Kumar Nayak
(P41121)

We have started with basic analysis, first we used PIVOT TABLE to understand the data given
to us, and then we analysed the following points.

1. We started with country India and plotted charts considering, Total number of cases
Vs Total number of Deaths for the given period, India COVID count Vs Rest of the
world (20 countries), Percentage contribution to total COVID cases.
2. We established relation between No. of hospital beds, Handwashing facility and
Number of new cases. Then we found relationship between hospital beds,
handwashing facility and number of deaths.

3. Then we used average and standard deviation concept on average life expectancy of
continents.
Average life SD in life
Continent expectancy expectancy
Africa 64.23 5.89
Asia 74.60 4.87
Europe 79.50 3.59
North America 76.68 3.82
Oceania 76.21 6.35
South America 75.58 3.36

4. Then we tried to establish correlation between population density and total number of cases
for all the countries.

correlation between population density and number of COVID cases -0.02011

This means that population density and Number of cases are weakly correlated and
population density is not causation.
5. Then we tried to correlate new cases per million to Average stringent value for each
continent. And we find out that there is weak to moderately weak correlation between
these two parameters. Although we can say that Government response to increasing cases
was not too effective to curb or slow down the rate of increase in number except few
countries.
6. We selected 5 countries based on the total number of cases and degree to which they have
succeeded to tackle COVID as compared to India. We tried to analyse the different factors
that are contributing to the rise in cases and their degree of importance

Next, we are planning to use other developmental index to establish relationship between them
and we are planning to check whether the reason for increase in death count is due to comorbidity
or not. We are also planning to use sampling technique to draw inferences.
