In response to being banned from the all-night senior party because of a senior prank, on

Tuesday the group of about 20 seniors who pulled the prank are protesting their punishment at

the school board meeting.

On the day of the prank, more than 1,000 balloons were released on school grounds, which

caused the school to log 150 tardies to the second period that day.

“I am sorry the students and parents are upset, but actions have consequences,” principal Vinita

Haygood said.“I gave ample warnings to the senior class that I would not tolerate any sort of

prank that disrupts school.”

The janitors spent more than an hour picking up balloon pieces throughout the school.

“We were being seniors, having fun and making memories,” senior Alfred Refugio said.“I still

think it's funny and don't regret it at all.”

The balloons were filled with air, and most were popped before the second period started.

“There are so many bad senior pranks out there, and we didn't even vandalize anything,” senior

Ruby Kanur said.

The previous year, a group of seniors smeared Vaseline on the doorknobs and the locks of

every locker.

“The seniors didn't mean any harm, but the prank was disruptive,” math teacher Grace Killen

said.”They should have released the balloons at the end of the day.”
