 Culler's observation on critical theory

About the Author :

Jonathan Culler (born 1944) is an
American literary critic. He is Class of 1916 Professor of English and
Comparative Literature at Cornell University. His published works
are in the fields of structuralism, literary theory and literary
criticism.
Theory :
An idea or set of ideas that is
intended to explain facts or events. : an idea that is suggested or
presented as possibly true but that is not known or proven to be
true. : the general principles or ideas that relate to a particular
subject.

Critical theory
Jonathan culler is one of the most
famous writer of American literature . He is known for many of his
famous works . Among them , literary theory is one of his works .
At the same time , it is called Critical theory or theory . Literary
theory connect work and theory together . Critical theory is
difficult to explain that what exactly the theory means critical
theory is a social theory focuses on explaining society . That means
, theory helps understanding a society , culture , translation
basically , it connected with the form of modernity capitalist
society .
According to culler , “ theory is
intimidating . It is an unbounded carpus of writing which is always
being argument as the young and the restless , in critiques of the
guiding conceptions of their elders . Theory is thus a source of
intimidation , a resource for constant up staging . He also describes
the nature of theory .

points of critical theory . This are ,

2. Theory is analytical and speculative .
3. Theory is a critique of common sense .
4. Theory is reflexive , thinking about thinking , enquiry into the
categories one uses in making sense of things ,in literature and
other discursive practices.
