CASE STUDY 1: WHERE DID THE FIRST CATHOLIC MASS TAKE PLACE IN THE
PHILIPPINES?

There are two (2) different places claimed that the first mass began in
their place but there two primary sources that historians refer to identifying the site of
the first mass. It's not easy to say where this actually happened. We have 2 primary
sources came from, Antonio Pigafetta and Albo.

For me, we don't have enough access to prove that the first mass happened in Butuan
and Limasawa but this 2 places claiming that the first mass held in their places. But
according to Antonio Pigafetta, the first mass began in Limasawa because he was a
member of Magellan's expedition and he witnessed the events. Pigafetta's
testimonies gave more details on what they did during their weeklong stay at Mazaua
Island but Albo also gave us his testimonies that's why we are all confused, years
passed there are only few information about the site of the first mass began. No one
can tell where exactly it happened there are many opinions but they don't have any
proofs or evidences. Until now we don't know where the first mass really happened
but i respect their beliefs because it was an important event in our history.

CASE STUDY 2: WHAT HAPPENED IN THE CAVITE MUTINY?

There are two (2) major events happened in 1872, first was the 1872
Cavite Mutiny and the other was the martyrdom of the three (3) martyr priests in the
persons of Fathers Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora or we also known
as GOMBURZA, but not all of us knew that there were different accounts in reference
to the said event. GOMBURZA, only wants us to fight for our rights but we must know
the different side of the story before we believe, we need to know what really
happened that time.

The Cavite Mutiny led to the persecution of prominent Filipinos including the 3 priests
Father Mariano Gomez, Father Jose Burgos, and Father Jacinto Zamora who also
known as GOMBURZA were tagged as the masterminds of the uprising in Spanish
Government. The unsuccessful mutiny was participated in by around 200 soldiers and
laborers, these executions particularly to the GOMBURZA, were to have a significant
effect on people and other filipino leaders. But in this case, we can see the bravery of
all Filipinos because they are all commit their lives just to save the other people.

This rebellions also shows that no matter what happens they will fight for our
country's freedom. We can say that they are the true hero of our country not just in
our country but in our hearts.

CASE STUDY 3: DID RIZAL RETRACT?

Dr. Jose Rizal is a hero of the revolution for his writings that center on
colonialism and liberating Filipino minds to contribute to creating Filipino nation. In
his writings, everything he wrote againsts friars and to the Catholic Church in the
Philippines could damage to his image as a prominent Filipino Revolutionary. He also
been a national iconic hero for over a hundred years and he has been the symbol of
our country’s freedom.

One of the most issues of Rizal was his retraction and being linked to Josephine
Bracken. But the only question, did he retract? There are people who strongly believe
that Rizal could not have had any reason to retract. For me, i want to believe that Rizal
had not retracted. Since it is still a boiling issue for over far too many years now,
imagine if Rizal did retract his image as this country’s national hero can stumble and
Filipinos can lose touch with the roots of their blood, with the thinking that our hero
in actuality may have been a coward a liar, or any adjective that can damage his image
of idealistic nature. We may not entirely understand Rizal’s personality and attitude
atleast our country can understand and appreciate of what he have done for all of us.
We should understand that Rizal is nor just a hero, he gave his life just to save our
lives.

CASE STUDY 4: WHERE DID THE CRY OF REBELLION HAPPEN?

The controversy regarding this event from the identification of the

date and place where the Cry happened. These are important in the history of
colonies who struggled for their independence against colonizers. The Filipino
historian Teodoro Agoncillo, who emphasized the event when Bonifacio tore the
cedula before the Katipuneros who also did the same.

By this time, this happened on August 1986, in Northeast of Manila where they
declared rebellion against the Spanish Colonial Government. The controversy among
historians continues to the present day. The “Cry of Pugad Lawin” on August 23,
1896 cannot be accepted as historically accurate because it lacks positive
documentation and supporting evidence from the witness.

This event has a big part in our life because this is important part of historian events
in the Philippines. As a Filipino, we should respect them and i'm thankful to those
heroes who sacrificed their lives just to gained this freedom from the abusive spanish.
