Subject Topic: Print Materials, Non-Print Material and Digital Materials

II. KNOWLEDGE OBJECTIVES


Lesson Objectives: At the end of this module, learners are expected to:
a. Differentiate print, non-print and digital materials.
b. analyze the elements used in print, non-print, and digital materials.

III. KNOWLEDGE PROCESS


Print Materials
- Refer to paper publications such as books, newspapers, magazines, journals, newsletters, and
other materials that are printed on paper.
Types of Print Material
1. Books
- It is a reading material that can be fictional or non-fictional.
- Nonfiction books provide facts and information on particular topics, fiction books are usually for
pleasure.
Examples:
a. Dictionary- a reference book listing words alphabetically and showing its meaning.
b. Encyclopedia- a set of books arranged alphabetically with information and pictures of
famous people, places, events or things.
- Contains general articles on nearly every known subject
- Information is organized alphabetically into volumes
- There are guide words at the top of each page to help you find information. Each
set of encyclopedia has an index, which you should check looking for your
information.
c. Atlas- a bound collection of maps often including illustrations, informative tables or textual
matters.
- Contains other sources of geographical information, such as statistics about
population, temperatures, oceans and deserts.
d. Almanac- a publication containing statistical, tabular, and general information.
- Includes information like weather forecasts, farmers’ planting dates, tide tables, and
other tabular data often arranged according to the calendar.
- Celestial figures and various statistics are found in almanacs, such as the rising and
setting times of the Sun and Moon, dates of eclipses, hours of high and low tides,
and religious festivals.
- The information is not arranged in order, table of contents and index are needed to
use.
2. Newspaper
- Contains a wide range of which appear on the different sections such as news, business,
lifestyle, sports, and entertainment sections.
Two types of Newspaper:
a. Broadsheet – the target readers of broadsheet are usually the professionals who prefer reading
formal news and in-depth analysis of issues.
b. Tabloid- is used for those who prefer reading condensed news and entertainment.
3. Magazine
- a periodical publication released weekly, monthly, or quarterly.
- contains articles on various topics depending on the subjects or area the magazine covers.
4. Journal
- Similar to a newspaper, a journal contains informative articles and provides accurate reports on
specific topics, such as medicine. It can also be compared to a magazine.
5. Newsletter
- It can be a bulletin where a company or an organization informs its readers about the updates
and happenings in their institution or community.

- Can also contain special features on topics which might be of interest or value to target
readers.
6. Pamphlet
- Pertains to the official publication of a government organization or an institution, which is
intended for public notices or listing of appointments.
7. Brochure
- is a small book or magazine that contains pictures and information about the products or
services offered by a company.
8. Leaflet and flyer
- Refer to a printed sheet of paper which contains information about a product for advertising
purposes.
- A leaflet is a small flyer.
- Leaflets and flyers are distributed and given free to targeted customers to promote a product

Non-Print Materials
- Are reference material that is not in written form.
- However, a non-print material, such as the Internet, may include print information.
Types of Non-Print Material
1. CD Player/Films
- Can provide information on topics or can be used for fun.
2. Radio
- Provides information in emergencies, weather, news, and music.
3. Television
- Can be educational and entertaining at the same time.
4. Computer and Internet
- Provides infinite amounts of information both for learning and entertainment.

Digital Materials
- Also called e-learning materials
- Are study materials published in digital format.
- are those that can be accessed by computers. Some of them are "born-digital," or originated in
a digital form (for example, pictures taken with a digital camera, web pages, twitter feeds, etc.),
others were converted into digital files.
Types of Digital Materials:
1. e-textbooks
2. e-workbooks
3. educational videos
4. e-tests

IV. KNOWLEDGE OUTCOMES


Directions: Accomplish the tasks below. Write it on a clean sheet of paper.
1. Using a graphic organizer, compare and contrast the three learning materials.
2. Explain the importance of each learning materials in your life as a student in paragraph form.
