REACTION PAPER IN CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

CHAPTER 8
“VENTURING INTO THE UNKNOWN: DEALING WITH RISK AND UNCERTAINTY”

In this chapter they tackle about how to deal with risk and uncertainty. We learned on
this topic about risk and how to manage it and what are the possible outcome of a risk
it’s either negative or positive.
They have discussed it thoroughly about how an uncertain result or risk may occur even
if you are well prepared and organized it could be either negative or positive. They gave
given some good example related to the topic. It is easy to understand the example that
they are explaining and it’s good that the example they have given is related to Civil
Engineering. They also discussed about risk factor where one risk can be the result of
more risk to come in the project. The most common risk factor on Project site are Labor
Shortages and Productivity Issues, Subcontractor default, Change Orders, Health and
Safety Hazards these common risk factor may greatly affect the project because it can
delay the project and cause some accidents. Finally we must eliminate potential risk
factor as soon as possible for a smoother flow of activity of the project.
The reporters have met their objectives for this chapter they have given us awareness
of how to identify risk and it’s probabilities, how it affects the project and to minimize it,
and how to anticipate it and spread awareness. This chapter is very important for us
future Civil Engineer because our work have so many uncertainty that may occur that
could delay our work. This chapter is very helpful so that we can identify the possible
risk or uncertainty that may occur and we can resolve it already so that it won’t cause
more risk in the future.
Overall they have discussed this chapter well and they have given some good example
related to our course. There is some minor problem that occur in the end because of
unstable connection. The presentation is well prepared it is easy to follow and
understand what they are reporting
