1.1. Kenya Airways PLC: background.
Kenya Airways Plc, more commonly known as Kenya Airways or KQ, is the flag carrier and largest airline of Kenya. The company was founded in 1977. The carrier's head office is located in Embakasi, North Airport Road
Nairobi, with its hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The largest shareholder is the Government of Kenya, which has 48.90%, followed by KQ Lenders (38.10%) and KLM, which has a 7.80% stake in the company. The rest of the shares are held by private entities; shares are
traded in the Nairobi Securities Exchange, the Dar‐es‐Salaam Stock Exchange, and the Uganda Securities Exchange.
Kenya Airways is widely considered as one of the leading Sub‐Saharan operators. The carrier became a full member of SkyTeam in June 2010 (06‐2010), and is also a member of the African Airlines Association since 1977.
Kenya Airways has a mixed fleet of narrow body and wide body Boeing Airplanes and Embraer Jets which it operates on both Domestic and International Routes in Passenger and Freighter Configurations. Its
Maintenance facilities are located in Nairobi at its Headquarters near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi. Kenya Airways maintenance organization is approved by KCAA of Kenya and EASA. Kenya Airways
Engineering and Maintenance handles both the airline and third party maintenance activities. Its clients include KLM, Precision Air, Kenya Air‐force, and RwandAir among others.
The Engines, Landing Gears, APUs, associated parts and other components are overhauled by External Parties at Facilities approved by FAA, EASA, Respective OEMs and other Authorized approval bodies. More
