TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE ( ESL ) IN MALAYSIA.

The article chosen is ‘21st Century Education in Teaching English as a second language
(ESL) in Malaysia, written by Zakaria, Yan Di and Yunus (2017). This article
stresses the advantages of using 21st century education in teaching ESL, current challenges
that teachers encounter in teaching ESL in Malaysia and the roles as a teacher in using 21st
century approach in teaching ESL. In this article, the authors also identify the benefits of
using 21st century approach in teaching English as second language (ESL) which allows the
student to be creatively in exploring solutions and problem-solving skills.

The challenges turn to problems that faced by teachers when they have insufficient
knowledge and skills or infrastructure.

In this paper, article summary, critical reflections as well as comments about selected aspect
and suggestions to the issue being raised are precisely presented.
