RICE HARVESTING TRADITION IN GLINGGANG VILLAGE,

ABSTRACT
The aim of this research was to describe the origins of of rice harvesting tradition in
Glinggang village, Sampung sub-district, Ponorogo district, the procession of the events, the
symbolic meaning and the benefits that can be taken by the residents of the Glinggang village.
This research was used descriptive qualitative research methods. The way to collect data
were done using in-depth interviews and participant observation, these methods can help
researchers to get valid data. The instruments used to assist data retrieval were cameras, tape
recorders and notebooks. Data processing in this study used inductive analysis techniques. The
data validation used in this study uses triangulation techniques, these techniques were used to
obtain credibility data.
The results of the study described: (1) The origin of the rice harvesting tradition in the
Glinggang village, Sampung sub-district, Ponorogo district, was implemented for the first time in
2017, this event was first initiated by the head of the village, village leaders and villagers whose
livelihoods as farmers. In fact, this event has become a tradition carried out by the people of
Glinggang village personally. The rice harvesting tradition event in Glinggang village is
currently being packaged into a festival for tourist attraction. (2) The traditional procession of
rice harvesting in Glinggang village, Sampung sub-district, Ponorogo district only took four days
preparation in 2019, because the event was only held one day. The sequence of events remained
the same, namely the opening, procession, rice picking procession or wiwitan, kenduri, and
reyog entertainment. (3) Ubarampe and offerings were used to form of gratitude to the One God.
(4) The benefits of the tradition of rice harvesting in Glinggang village were to preserve Javanese
culture, to describe the harmony of the residents, the community's economy, religion, and to
introduce tourism potential in Glinggang village.
