Twentieth Sunday After Pentecost
Twentieth Sunday After Pentecost
A In the name of the Father, and of the Son, T and of the Holy Spirit,
C Amen.
A Brothers and sisters in Christ, if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves, but if we confess our sins, God
will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. With this confidence, then, let us confess our sins
to God our Father. Let us kneel…(silence is kept for private confession)
C Almighty God, our maker and redeemer, we poor sinners confess to you that we are by nature sinful and
unclean and that we have sinned against you and each other by thought, word, and deed; therefore, we flee
for refuge to your boundless mercy, seeking and imploring your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy on us and has given his only Son to die for us and for his
sake forgives all our sins. To those who believe on his name he gives power to become the children of God and
has promised them his Holy Spirit. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, to us all.
C Amen.
Kyrie
Kyrie, O Lord, eleison. Kyrie, O Lord, eleison. Kyrie, O Lord, eleison, O Lord, eleison.
Christe, O Lord, eleison. Christe, O Lord, eleison. Christe, O Lord, eleison, O Lord, eleison.
Kyrie, O Lord, eleison. Kyrie, O Lord, eleison. Kyrie, O Lord, eleison, O Lord, eleison.
Gloria
Glory to God, we give you thanks and praise; of heavenly joy we sing. We worship you, to you our hearts we
raise, Lord God, almighty king.
Lord Jesus Christ, the Father’s only Son, you take our sin away. O precious Lamb of God,
the victory you’ve won, receive our thanks today.
Alone, O Christ, you only are the Lord, at God’s right hand most high: who, with the Spirit,
worshiped and adored, Three-in-One, we glorify.
A The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C And also with you.
A Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting God, in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations. Preserve the works of
your mercy, that your church throughout the world may preserve with steadfast faith in the confession of your
name; through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
C Amen.
The Lessons
A The LORD is king; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
C The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples.
A Let them praise your great and awesome name. Holy is he!
C Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in
Jacob.
A Extol the LORD our God; worship at his footstool. Holy is he!
C Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called on his name.
A They cried to the LORD, and he answered them.
C He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept his decrees, and the statutes that he gave them.
A O LORD our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their
wrongdoings.
C Extol the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy.
We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly remembering before
our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus
Christ. For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you, because our message of
the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just
as you know what kind of persons we proved to be among you for your sake. And you became imitators of us
and of the Lord, for in spite of persecution you received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit, so that
you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. For the word of the Lord has sounded
forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith in God has become known, so
that we have no need to speak about it. For the people of those regions report about us what kind of welcome
we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, and to wait for his
Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath that is coming.
Halle-halle-hallelujah,
Halle-halle-hallelujah,
Halle-halle-hallelujah,
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said. So they sent their disciples to him, along
with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance
with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality. Tell us, then, what
you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not?” But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why are
you putting me to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the coin used for the tax.” And they brought him a
denarius. Then he said to them, “Whose head is this, and whose title?” They answered, “The emperor’s.” Then
he said to them, “Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that
are God’s.” When they heard this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away.
Homily
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he
rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will
come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, T and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offering Prayer
C My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive Your holy meal, I am confident of the perfect righteousness I have by
grace through your Word.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
The Lord’s Supper
A When the faithful of this congregation were gathered earlier, the Gospel of our salvation was
proclaimed once again – how God sent his only Son to save us from sin and death and to make
with us the covenant of peace through his blood. With joy and thanksgiving the words of our Lord were
spoken and received; namely that in the same night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, gave
thanks, broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my body, T which is given for you.” And
in the same way he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying: “This cup is the New Testament in
my blood, T which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sin. Do this, as often as you drink it in
remembrance of me.” Therefore, with this bread and cup let us remember the life our Lord offered for us.
And, believing the witness of his resurrection, let us await his coming in power to share with us the great and
promised feast. Let us pray…
C May this holy meal lead to our perfect family banquet in the new creation when Jesus comes again;
through whom and with whom and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory be to you, O
Father Almighty, forever. Amen.
A And now, commanded by our Lord's teaching and encouraged by his divine instruction, we are bold to say:
C Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Lord, now let your servant depart in peace according to your word.
For my eyes have seen your salvation
which you have prepared in the sight of all people--
a light to lighten the gentiles and the glory of your people Israel.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, T and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now and shall be forever. Amen.
I the Lord will bless and keep you And give you peace;
I the Lord will smile upon you And give you peace:
I the Lord will be your Father,
Savior, Comforter, and Brother.
Go, My children, I will keep you And give you peace
