Probability with Cards

Name: ______________________________________

You are going to perform an experiment to estimate the probability of drawing a club, a diamond, a
heart, and a spade from your 52 cards.

Directions:

1. Open up the “Deck of Cards” website in Schoology or click here.

2. You will be drawing one card at time. Click on the deck and it will draw a card for you. Record what
suit was drawn in the appropriate box below.
3. In the upper left-hand corner, click on “Shuffle” for it to replace the card.
4. Click on the deck and it will draw a card for you. Record its suit.
5. In the upper left-hand corner, click on “Shuffle” for it to replace the card.
6. Repeat the above steps until you have recorded a total of 25 draws.
7. Once you have completed the probability experiment, compute the Experimental Probability and
the Theoretical Probability.
8. Answer the question below the chart.

How do the class experimental results compare to the theoretical probabilities?

Suppose we recorded 2,500 draws in our experiment. How do you think the experimental
probabilities will compare to the theoretical probabilities then?
