Work on Malir Expressway Project in Karachi to Begin in July 2019.

During a meeting for reviewing the progress on the Malir Expressway project, Murad Ali Shah
—the Chief Minister of Sindh instructed the planning and development department to start
working on the expressway from July 2019.

COMPLETION TIMELINE:

The project is referred to as the most significant one for connecting the motorway to the city
Centre. The expressway is anticipated to reach completion in the span of two and a half years.

In a meeting that was held at the house of the Chief Minister on Monday, Murad Ali Shah said
that he believes it would be providing fast access to the significant real estate projects along
the route, hence decreasing the travelling time from the KPT flyover to the motorway to just 25
minutes.

COMMERCIAL ASPECTS:

The project cost is nearly forty billion rupees (Rs. 40 Billion), of the total cost thirty percent
(30%) would be borne by the provincial government and the public-private Partnership
Programme while the remaining cost would be paid for via bank loans (70%).
PROJECT PROPOSED ROUTE:

The project includes the development of 40.4 kilometres; 03 into 03 lane expressways with
controlled access along the Malir River beginning from the Qayyumabad Bridge and
terminating at the Karachi Hyderabad M9 Motorway near Kathore via the Link Road.

The project was placed in front of the public-private partnership policy board on the 31 st of
January this year after which the board approved the initiation of the project under a 2-stage
bidding procedure.

The meeting was attended by many officials including;

 Local government minister—Saeed Ghani,


 Principal Secretary to the CM—Sajid Jamal Abro,
 Planning and Development Chairperson—Mohammad Waseem,
 Local Government Secretary—Khalid Hyder Shah &
 Other officers.
