1.

If we were able to exclude the eccentric, the different, the misfits, and the weak, what would
happen to society?
- It would be a terrible society, I believe. Only the best people will have wealth and a decent
life. Those who had flaws will need low class work and not get the same treatment as people
who do not have flaws. And I don't believe people should be able to rule out people who were
as good as other people.
2. Compare Jerome and Vincent. What were their strengths and their weaknesses? In what ways
were they the mirror image of each other?
- They were eager to be at the top, but they were pushed back. Vincent had always wanted to
go into space but never could pursue due to his heart disease, but he was determined and
gradually transformed himself into Jerome. Jerome was an ever-winning swimmer and he
loses his third place and is walking in front of the car during the championship match and
was meant to be a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
3. Why is there such resistance to the new order imposed by this society? E.g., Vincent's girlfriend;
the test technician?
- Throughout the entire film, other resistances are suspected against this new order established
by this society. Irena Cassini, a Gattaca co-worker with Vincent, and his girlfriend learn that
it is invalid and uses samples as a tool for getting into the deep space mission of the Gattaca
Aerospace Corporation, but she has nothing to do with it.
4. Wouldn't parents want to ensure that their child was perfect and had the attributes of physical
attractiveness, intelligence, and athletic prowess to be able to do whatever he or she wanted in
life? If so, why is the society portrayed in this film so devoid of happiness, vitality, and fun?
- Although parents would like to "transform" their offspring, this leaves a very prominent
barrier among offspring who have not undergone genetic modification. Despite of this,
culture is perceived bland and boring. The difference in each marks the middle line between
the wealthy and the affluent and the poor and poor.
