Need Assessment :
Need Assessment refers to the process used to determine
whether training is necessary.

Need Assessment typically involves Organizational analysis, Person analysis, and


Task analysis.

1. Organizational Analysis involves determining the appropriateness of


training, given the company’s business strategy, its resources available for
training, and support by managers and peers for training activities.
2. Person Analysis involves :
 Identifying who needs training.
 Determining employees readiness for training.
3. Task Analysis identifies the important tasks and knowledge, skills, and
behaviors need to be emphasized in training for employees to complete
their tasks.

Methods used in Needs Assessment:


Several Methods are used to conduct needs assessment, including observing
employees performance the job, utilizing online technology, reading technical
manuals and other documentation, interviewing SMEs, conducting focus groups
with SMEs, and asking SMEs to complete questionnaires required for a job.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Needs Assessment Techniques:

Advantages:

 Inexpensive
 Data easily summarized
 Question can be modified
 Good source of information on produce
 Requires limited human involvement

Disadvantages:

 Requires time
 Lack detail
 Difficult to analyze
 Materials may be obsolete
 Difficult to schedule

The three elements of needs assessment:
organizational analysis, person analysis, and task analysis.

 Support of managers, peers, and Employees for training activities
Person Analysis:
Person characteristics

Task analysis:

 Work Activitiy
 Knowledge, skill, ability, personal capability
