university located in Istanbul. The main campus is adjacent to Beyazıt Square

Constantinople, after the previous name of the city. Istanbul University is
associated with 2 Nobel laureates, Aziz Sancar (in Chemistry) and Orhan
Pamuk

2. Hagia Sophia Mosque

Hagia Sophia, officially the Great Mosque of Ayasofya and the Church of Hagia
Sophia is a Late Antique place of worship in Istanbul that has served as a Greek
Orthodox Christian patriarchal cathedral, briefly a Roman Catholic cathedral,
later an Ottoman mosque, and a museum. Completed in 537, during the reign
of the eastern Roman emperor Justinian I, it was then the world's largest
interior space and the first to employ a fully pendentive dome. It is considered
the epitome of Byzantine architecture and is said to have "changed the history
of architecture". It is also an important example of the common Islamic
practice of converting non-Islamic places of worship into mosques, which has
led to religious strife in several parts of the world.
3. Topkapi Palace
The Topkapı Palace is a large museum in the east of the Fatih district of Istanbul
in Turkey. In the 15th and 16th centuries it served as the main residence and
administrative headquarters of the Ottoman sultans. Construction, ordered by
the Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, began in 1459, six years after the conquest
of Constantinople. Topkapı was originally called the "New Palace" (Yeni Saray
or Saray-ı Cedîd-i Âmire) to distinguish it from the Old Palace (Eski Saray or
Sarây-ı Atîk-i Âmire) in Beyazıt Square. It was given the name Topkapı,
meaning Cannon Gate, in the 19th century. The complex expanded over the
centuries, with major renovations after the 1509 earthquake and the 1665 fire.
The palace complex consists of four main courtyards and many smaller
buildings. Female members of the Sultan's family lived in the harem, and
leading state officials, including the Grand Vizier, held meetings in the
Imperial Council building.

4. Blue Mosque
Sultan Ahmed Mosque ( Turkish : Sultan Ahmet Camii ), also known as the Blue
Mosque, is an Ottoman-era mosque located in Istanbul , Turkey . A

contains Ahmed's tomb, a madrasah and a hospice. Hand-painted blue tiles
adorn the mosque's interior walls, and at night the mosque is bathed in blue as
lights frame the mosque's five main domes, six minarets and eight secondary
domes. It sits next to the Hagia Sophia , the principal mosque of Istanbul until
the Blue Mosque's construction and another popular tourist site.

5. Uludag Mountain
In Turkish, Uludağ means "great mountain". In ancient times the range of
which it is a part, extending along the southern edge of Bithynia, was known as
Olympos in Greek and Olympus in Latin, the western extremity being known
as the Mysian Olympus and the eastern as the Bithynian Olympus, and the city
of Bursa was known as Prusa ad Olympum from its position near the mountain.
Throughout the Middle Ages, it contained hermitages and monasteries: "The
rise of this monastic centre in the 8th c. and its prestige up to the 11th are
linked to the resistance of numerous monks to the policy of the iconoclast
emperors and then to a latent opposition to the urban, Constantinopolitan
monasticism of the Studites."One of the greatest monks of the Christian East,
the wonder-working Byzantine monk Saint Joannicius the Great, lived as a
hermit on this mountain.
6. Cumalikizik Village
Cumalıkızık is a village in the Yıldırım district of Bursa Province, located 10
kilometers east of the city of Bursa, at the foot of Mount Uludağ. Its history
goes back to the Ottoman Empire's foundation period. The village is now
included within the border of the Yıldırım district as a neighbourhood.
Cumalıkızık was founded as a vakıf village. The historical texture of the village
has been well protected and the civilian countryside architectural structures of
the early Ottoman period are still intact. Because of this, Cumalıkızık has
become a popular but still unspoiled center for tourists.

The Ulu Camii or "Great Mosque" is the largest mosque in Bursa, the first
capital of the Ottoman Empire, and a landmark of early Ottoman architecture
as it evolved out of Seljuk Turkish architecture. Ordered by Sultan Bayezid I,
the mosque was designed and built by architect Ali Neccar in 1396–1399.
Bayezid I was the fourth ruler of the Ottoman empire. Shortly after the
construction of this mosque he suffered one of the empire's worse defeats at
the hands of Timur (Tamerlane) at the Battle of Ankara in 1402. Tradition holds
that Timur went on to burn the mosque that same year and that the
Qaramanid ruler Mehmed Bey did so again during a siege of the city in 1412.
Whatever the case, the first recorded repairs to the mosque took place in 1493.
The mosque underwent further restorations across its history. Following a
damaging earthquake in 1855 which caused the roof to collapse, the mosque
was closed for a number of years. Repairs were completed in 1889.

painted in yellow, orange and blue. Since the area has gained popularity, just a
short stroll away from the colorful houses of Balat, there are streets filled with
cute and tiny decorated cafes and antique shops. I absolutely loved the café
streets as it is colorful and vibrant! Some of the shops are even underground
but the owners have maintained and decorated them so well. The old and
rusty walls of the area are beautifully painted with graffiti by the locals. Some
of the graffiti is very eye-catching!
