PAN IIT Alumni Reach for Jharkhand Foundation- An SPV of Welfare Department, GoJ

Background:

PAN IIT Alumni Reach for Jharkhand Foundation (PReJHA) was incorporated as a not for profit
company under Section 8 (1) of the Companies Act, 2013 for the execution and scaling in an
institutional manner, sustainable welfare initiatives like Rural Skills Gurukul that enhance incomes,
self-reliance of all the underprivileged sections, including for Scheduled Tribes, Schedule Castes,
Minorities through skills training and entrepreneurship. This initiative is a special purpose vehicle
(SPV) launched by Department of Welfare, Govt. of Jharkhand in collaboration with PAN IIT Alumni
Reach for India (PARFI) Foundation. PReJHA was formally launched on 1 st of August 2016 by Shri.
Raghubar Das, the Honourable Chief Minister of Jharkand. Present at the launch were Dr. Louis
Marandi - Honourable Welfare Minister, Jharkhand and Shri. B. Muthuraman- Chairman, PanIIT
Alumni Reach for Jharkhand Foundation.

About Kalyan Gurukul: Kalyan Gurukul model is a residential, fit-for-purpose training in technical
skills in sectors like construction, manufacturing, medical services and logistics. Training is imparted
using latest technologies including simulators to create worksite like infrastructure. The emphasis is
on practical experience for enhancing productivity, imbibing quality and ensuring safety. Over time,
the agenda is also to use ‘Immersive technologies for learning’ showcasing latest simulation, virtual
reality and augmented reality technologies for learning and skill development.

Kalyan Gurukul is typically led by ex-servicemen, seek to infuse patriotic values and life skills,
including discipline, financial and credit literacy, in addition to technical training. Even before
setting Gurukul , it is ensured that contracts for placement of students is made with employers who
are typically CII members for placing students in India and abroad. Hence for a Gurukul students
jobs are waiting even before they enrol in this demand led training model. The placements are both
domestic and international.

Most of the international placement placements are in construction sector including plumbing, AC
duct and Electrical fittings. The candidates are currently placed in UAE, Kuwait and Republic of
Saudi Arabia with average salary of Rs 22,000.
About PReJHA foundation: Department of Welfare, Government of Jharkhand and PanIIT Alumni
Reach for India Foundation have partnered to launch PanIIT Alumni Reach for Jharkhand
Foundation (PReJha Foundation) a non-profit joint enterprise to implement and scale sustainable
welfare initiatives. This initiative will replicate the Kalyan Gurukul model across all the districts of
the Jharkhand state and thus provide a network of sub-ITI institutions accessible to schools drop-
out, poor youth including from the affirmative action of the society.

Till date Kalyan Gurukul is already present in Jharkhand across various locations that includes
Gumla, Jamshedpur, Bundu, Jamsehdpur, Chaibasa, Simdega, Koderma, Saraikela, Dumka, Palamu
and Hazaribagh, working towards skilling and providing sustainable employment to the unskilled
and unemployed.

PreJha foundation in addition has joined hands NABARD to provide 100% skill loan financing to
the students of the Gurukul through Nabard financial Services, its NBFC subsidiary. All students
are provided skill loan to cover their training cost in Kalyan Gurukul. Currently for domestic
students this loan is Rs 10,000 and international it is Rs 18,000.
