Criteria to use when evaluating Digital Resources

NUTS AND BOLTS

Accuracy – Is the information accurate?

Cost – What is the cost of the tool?

User Interface/Ease of Use – How easy is it to use and navigate the tool (Easy, Difficult)?

Advertisements – Will advertisements clutter the resource?

Support – Is there help or assistance if needed?

Clean Design – Is the design simple enough that it doesn’t impede the communication
of content?

Chunking - Is the content chunked into manageable bits of information?

Licensing – Does the license allow for educational reuse of the materials? Does it allow
you to modify the materials?

STUDENT BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE

Perspective – Is the included content only from one perspective, or does the resource
include content that students from a variety of cultures will connect with?

DIFFERENTIATION FOR LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Language Proficiency Level – Will the language be easily understood by the desired
audience/grade level?

Differentiation – Are there multiple representations of the content, which will make
it easier for all students to access? (Images, words, audio, video, etc.)

Languages – Does the resource allow for translation or subtitles?


ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL

Device – Can the content be displayed on multiple types of devices (ipads,


computers, phones), which makes it more likely that all students will be able to access it?

File size – Does the content consist of large amounts of data? (Which
makes it less likely that all students will be able to access it).

ACADEMIC RELEVANCE

Connected to Standards – Is the content directly relevant for the stated


standards and objectives?

Practice – Does the resource offer opportunities for students to practice


the content?

Assessment – Does the resource offer opportunities for assessment?

Social – Does the resource foster social interaction and collaborative


learning experiences?
