Best Structural Design for Indoor Stadium (Dual
benefit of playing shuttle badminton and basket
ball). This competition aims at enkindling the
thoughts and skills of the students to come up
with efficient designs reiterating the multifarious
advantages of steel and RCC intensive
construction such as flexibility in design,
economic, cost effectiveness etc.

* ABOUT THE COLLEGE *
KLS’s Gogte Institute of Technology, the flagship
Institute of Karnatak Law Society was established in
1979. Spread across a sprawling mango meadows of
over 20 acres, GIT, an Autonomous institution under
VTU offers eight under-graduate and nine post-graduate
programmes. Ten departments have been recognized as
Research Centers to offer Ph.D programmes. GIT has the
honor of sheltering over 4000 students and around 400
highly qualified and motivated workforce.GIT has been a
hub of many activities of excellence and achievements
known for its academic credentials coupled with holistic
development, GIT offers a thorough learning experience
through its dedicated faculty, spacious classrooms, well
equipped labs, Wi-Fi ambience, voluminous library, soft-
skills lab, multi-gym and sports facility, banking facility
etc. GIT has carved a niche for itself through

* ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT *
The Department of Civil Engineering was established in
1979 to offer B.E. in Civil Engineering. Later, the
M.Tech. programme in Structural Engineering was
added in the year 1987, to initiate Research activities. A
full fledged Research center was established in 2004 to
offer Ph.D and M.Sc. programmes.
The department carries the distinction of getting the
accreditation by NBA, AICTE New Delhi for the second
time in succession. The department enjoys the services
of the dedicated faculty with expertise and specialization
in all the major areas of Civil Engineering. The faculty
have published 100+ technical papers in reputed
journals; presented several papers in prestigious
International and National conferences.
All the laboratories are well equipped with state-of-the-
art testing facilities.The department offers quality
assurance and material testing facility and consultancy
services to various organizations. It is also involved in
the third party inspection of civil works, construction
auditing etc. The department regularly organizes
workshops, conferences, training programmes etc. at
regional and national levels.
The Department has been recognized as a training
centre by Karnataka Engineering Research Station
(KERS), Mysore to impart training in various disciplines
to the professional engineers of Govt. of Karnataka.
Many students graduated from the Civil Engineering
Department have occupied top positions in prestigious
organizations across the globe; many are entrepreneurs
and professionals.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
To Plan, Design and estimate existing basket ball court
for expansion and indoor port for shuttle badminton
court and basket ball as dual benefit at KLS GIT
campus.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Design Structural components using relevant IS
codes. Layout plan, Elevation, Sectional views should
show the arrangement facilities provided.
2. All CAD drawings architectural and structural
should be in scale as per standard requirements,
layout drawing and sections X and Y.
3. Connections- All connections shall be either welded
connection or bolted connection using mild steel or
high tensile black bolts, turned bolts or HSFG bolts.
4. Design the truss considering wind load for Belagavi
region.
5. Consider Roof non-accessible.
6. Project cost estimation should be calculated as per
present SR rates 2019.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Architectural plan (Auto Cad), section, elevation view
(2 sides).
2. Structural Design (RCC/ Steel structure).
3. Quantities and Estimation for entire structure.
4. Elevation view (Interior and Exterior).
SOFTWARES
1. Drafting –AutoCAD.
2. Design- Etabs/STAAD Pro.
3. Estimation- Excel.
4. 3-D View (Interior and Exterior)- Google Sketch up.
MATERIALS FOR CONSTRUCTION
1. Foundation system – RCC of minimum grade M25
(as per IS 10262:2019).
2. Structural members like columns, beams,
members and bracing systems- Structural steel of
mild steel (grade E250) or Yst 310/355 or high
tensile steel (grade E350/E410).
3. Roof and Cladding- Steel truss with roof covering-
Standard Color Coated Sheet (Galvalume).
4. Walls- Puff panel.
DESIGN LOADS
1. Dead load- Dead load will be the weight of the
structure itself along with all permanent weight carried
by it.
2. Live load on Roof- as per IS 875 Part 2-1987.
3. Wind load- Basic wind speed to be considered as per
IS 875 part 3-2015. (Please check against Belagavi
region).
