Chapter Name: Mineral Resources

Grade IV

Do Section A,B and C in your notebook.

Section D.

Q1.

Ans 1: Iron is a very useful metal because it can be mixed with other metals to make a whole
variety of 'alloys' which are even stronger and don't rust easily and can be shaped into products
from cars to pins, household appliances to buildings, bridges to railways, food cans to tools.
Animals need iron for making energy and carrying blood around the body.
Q2:

Ans2: Fossil fuels are of great importance because they can be burned (oxidized to carbon
dioxide and water), producing significant amounts of energy per unit mass. The use of coal as
a fuel predates recorded history. Coal was used to run furnaces for the smelting of metal ore.

Q4:

Ans 4: It is important to conserve resources as many resources are scarce and take millions of years to
develop. Over exploitation of resources may exhaust them. Thus, we need to conserve resources. To use
the resources carefully and to give time to renew them is known as conservation of resources.
Some common ways in which we can conserve resources are:
 Not to waste paper
 to switch off fans and light when not in use
 to not waste paper
 to use water carefully
 to harvest water
 to reduce consumption, recycle and reuse waste materials

Q5:
Ans 5: It has great importance because it combines the strength of metals such as iron with
extreme lightness and great flexibility. It is used in electrical equipment industry and for
transmitting electricity because it is a good conductor of electricity. It can be found in
Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

HOTS:
Q1:
Ans1: This is because when crude oil (petroleum) is extracted from the land it is black in color.
This resource is compared to gold due to its valuable properties and value too. Crude oil is
black before purification but after purification, it turns golden in color; therefore, it's tagged as
Black Gold.

Q2:
Ans 2: Do it yourself.
