Episode 3- The Teacher and the Community

1. Describe your Barangay in terms of:

Location : Mabini is situated at approximately 9.6217, 125.5811, in the island of

Mindanao. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 110.7 meters or 363.2
feet above mean sea level.
Demography : According to the 2015 Census, the age group with the highest
population in Mabini is 15 to 19, with 126 individuals. Conversely, the age group
with the lowest population is Under 1, with 20 individuals.
The population of Mabini grew from 761 in 1990 to 1,190 in 2015, an increase of
429 people. The latest census figures in 2015 denote a positive growth rate of
2.98%, or an increase of 170 people, from the previous population of 1,020 in
2010.

1.3. Physical Features: Our barangay is just a small barangay. It has 3 purok

only. The small population that we have in our  barangay became a blessing
to our barangay because it resulted to a more united constituents.

1.4. Commercial Resources:

In terms of landscape, our barangay is has a flat landscape because our
main source of living is rice farming. We are actually considered as the rice
granary of our municipality. And because we have rice fields, you can see
also various irrigation in our barangay.

1.5. Facilities: Schools, Community centers, Plaza, Health Centers,

Church/Chapel

 2. What are the issues/ concerns and problems in your community?
The issues in my community is lack of proper drainage system which causes
flood in some part of our barangay during rainy days specially this wet season of
habagat.

3. What Possible linkages can the community and school have? 

A school is supposed to serve the need of the community. In fact, the concept of
community colleges is an interesting example of academia and the community working
together to develop job oriented courses. So linkages can be with the school and the
industry in the community, or the school with the local business and so on.
