Week 6 Welcome Announcement

Welcome to Week 6! This week, you will explore concepts related to musculoskeletal and
integumentary disorders. The following objectives will be addressed:

 Analyze pathophysiologic mechanisms associated with musculoskeletal and

integumentary disorders.
 Describe outcomes of disruptive or alterations in musculoskeletal and integumentary
processes.
 Explore age-specific and developmental alterations in musculoskeletal and
integumentary disorders.
 Relate pathophysiological alterations in musculoskeletal and integumentary processes to
the development, diagnosis and treatment of select health problems
 Examine current evidence to support the management of patients who present with
musculoskeletal and integumentary dysfunction.

In addition to the assigned readings, make sure to review all of the lessons associated with
each topic.

This week, you will answer one discussion question. It centers on a pediatric patient who
presents with a skin rash. The concept that can be applied to this case in addition to this being
an integumentary disorder is inflammation. In terms of immunity, consider the types of
hypersensitivity reactions encountered in our readings. Keep this in mind as you delve into
answering this question.

Have a great week!

Week 6 Summary

In week 6, the following objectives were addressed:

 Analyze pathophysiologic mechanisms associated with musculoskeletal and

integumentary disorders.
 Describe outcomes of disruptive or alterations in musculoskeletal and integumentary
processes.
 Explore age-specific and developmental alterations in musculoskeletal and
integumentary disorders.

the development, diagnosis and treatment of select health problems
 Examine current evidence to support the management of patients who present with
musculoskeletal and integumentary dysfunction.

I hope that this week’s case study was helpful in reinforcing the concepts of inflammation and
immunity. In your upcoming clinical courses, you will encounter patients that come in with skin
rashes. It is important to accurately describe them and as you rule out many potential causes of
a skin rash, as it’s often the process of elimination, delve back into the pathophysiological
concepts that will help guide your assessment and evaluation. Have a great week!
