Bollywood versus Hollywood

1. Introduction
 Evaluation of the relationship between Bollywood and Hollywood
 Bollywood characterized as a third world cinema
 Hindi films mostly being based on cultural beliefs or problems
 Hollywood focusing more on its sense of glitz and commercialism
 Bollywood resisting western cultural influences in cinema

2. Bollywood cinema
 Does not make serious films
 Focuses more on drama, action, comedy, songs and dances
 Does not celebrate Europeans
 Massively popular among the same audiences
 Anti- western agenda
 Audiences show less to no interest in western films
 Adherence to songs, dances and a star does not guarantee a film’s
success
 Indian films and Indian music both depend on each other
 Hindi films are uniformly longer
 Considered too “ challenging” for mainstream and commercial
audiences
