BS EN 10147 and BS EN 10143 having a minimum zinc coating weight of 275 ,
1 g/m2.
6.2.3 Insulation
The insulation shall retain its I'U" value for the life of the panel facing sheets and
shall be unaffected by extremes of temperature and humidity. The insulation shall be
odourless, free from mould and shall be vermin proof.
The inner lining sheet shall be formed from steel sheet or strip to BS 1449, not less
than 33 gauge thick and shall be zinc coated in accordance with BS EN 10142 or BS
EN 10147 and BS EN 10143 having a minimum zinc coating weight of 275g/m2.
The sheet shall be profiled to present a planked appearance.
After degreasing and chromate or phosphate conversion coating the galvanising shall
be overcoated with one coat epoxy primer, minimum dry film thickness 7 microns,
followed by one coat polyester, minimum dry film thickness 16 microns.
The required properties of the polyester coating system shall be as per Attachment 1.
6.2.5 Accessories
Flashing, trim, caps, moulded closure strips and similar metal accessories shall be
not less than minimum material thickness and coatings, coating weights and coating
e$
thickness specified for external weathering sheet.

Moulded closure strips shall be closed cell or solid cell synthetic rubber, neoprene or
polyvinyl chloride pre-moulded to match the profile of the cladding panels. All
metal accessories shall have finish coating to match cladding panels.
6.2.6 Fasteners
Screws, bolts, washers and other fasteners shall be stainless steel Type 3 16. Both
primary and secondary fasteners shall incorporate a non-metallic sealing ring in
contact with the panel face, with a 19 mm diameter stainless steel Type 3 16 load
spreading washer. Fasteners shall be provided with snap-on colour matching caps.
Preferred location of primary fixings shall be in the valley of profile.
Sealants for exterior face panels, flashings and joints shall be Fed. Spec. TT-S-1657,
Type 1, Class B polysulphide sealants. Primers and backing material shall be
provided as required. Colour of sealants shall be similar to the finish colour of panel
to which it is applied.
Where indicated on the Owner approved drawings, rooflights and glazing strips shall
be supplied to provide natural lighting. They shall be formed from profiled
translucent sheets and shall be factory prefabricated. The profile shall match the steel
cladding profile.
The rooflights and glazing strips shall be double walled with a core of translucent
foam. The exterior skin shall be a standard weight translucent glass reinforced plastic
(GRP) panel with an external coating of Tedlar (polyvinyl fluoride) to inhibit the

Colour shall be clear with a light transmission value of not less than 60 per cent
when tested in accordance with ASTM D 1494 and a thermal transmittance value
('V" value) not greater than 2.8 watts/m2 per degree Kelvin when tested in
accordance with ASTM C 236. The insulated GRP panels shall be installed in the
planes of the roof or walls.
In fire exposure roof tests to BS 476: Part 3 Ext. S.A.A. internal and external
surfaces shall be classified as Class 0.
Following inspection on delivery, materials shall be stored off the ground, under cover and
accessible at all times for piece by piece inspection.
6.4 Erection
6.4.1 General
Erection of steel roofing and cladding shall not commence until the structure to
which it is to be attached has been checked, approved and accepted by Owner.
Roof and wall cladding shall be erected in accordance with the Owner approved
manufacturer's erection drawings and, unless shown or specified otherwise by
Owner, published specifications.
The roof and wall cladding shall be erected square, level and plumb, with joints,
penetrations and openings in proper alignment with the work of other trades.
Exposed end laps shall be held to a horizontal line with overall variation in
not to exceed 3.0 mm. Panels which have been damaged or defaced shall be
and removed off site.
