ABSTRACT

CORE DESIGN OF TRIANGULAR MESH MODEL IN CANDU

REACTOR USING THORIUM RECYCLING FUEL

By

Imam Prayogi

The research on the design of the triangular mesh core reactor (core) in the
CANDU reactor uses thorium recycled fuel. This research was conducted by
determining the percentage of fuel that meets the critical standards, determining
the size and configuration of the reactor core that meets the critical standards then
determining the distribution of power density at the CANDU reactor. The research
was done, it is found that the percentage of fuel used is in part 1 of the enrichment
of 4% - 8% with a range of 0,5% and in part 2 the enrichment is 8% in which the
percentage of fuel that meets the criticality of the enrichment part 1 namely 5,5%
and enrichment part 2 which is 8% which results in keff = 1,0000001. Furthermore,
the size and configuration of the reactor core are also obtained on the axis (x) 22
at point (y) 25,167215 cm and on the axis (y) 11 at point (x) 50,33443 cm by
producing a maximum power density value of 228.6517 Watt/cm3. Then this
study also produces an average power density value obtained on the (x) axis of
148,3590 Watt/cm3 with a peak power factor of 1,541206 and an average power
density obtained on the (y) axis of 153,1496 Watt/cm3 and has a peak power
factor of 1,492996.
